What would you do?

I got a question for anyone that wants to answer it. =)
If you were on a first date with someone and you both
heard the voice of God saying "Will you take ____ to be your (wife/husband)?"
What would you do??

Well, it would depend how long I have known the other I'm on the date with ^__^
I would take it as a consideration that it may be a sign if we were in a long long long long loving and deep relationship with one another :-? If it were someone I just met last week, I would get to know them and not jump to conclusions ^^
/Hopes that made sense and nothing came out wrong n_n

I'd say back to God, "If you want. Your call."

That's an odd question. I honestly don't know what I'd do since I've never been on a date or been in a relationship with anyone.
Well, as Tsuki said, I wouldn't jump to conclusions and just seek to better my relationship with that person. If it's God's will, then you'll both know it in due time because I really don't think God is one to rush things.
Honestly, if that happened, it might make the whole situation as awkward as it could be.

Hmm, I'm really not sure either... But as a whole I'd have to say I agree with Tsuki and ADXC.

First I would look around and try to find whoever it was that was playing a prank on me. If no person or speaker could be found, then I would probably freak out and respond back to the voice that demons and mental disorders can be pretty deceptive at times. Then I would go seek the advice of knowledgeable Christians, such as my parents or pastor or priest and suggest to my date that she do the same.

hmm if He just said "Will you take ____ to be your (wife/husband)?" i would say "idk" if He said "take ____ to be your (wife/husband)?" i would probably get nervous and throw up. then test to see if it was really God by seeing where and how the relationship goes

I'd be like: "Um, give me a sign real quick that it is you Lord... please?" Then if the gave me a sign of some sort I'd go with it. Not without awkwardness, yet still happy to obey God. I'd like to ask what made you ask this question thought... if you don't mind?

Hi Arya Raiin,
I am not trying to be offensive or confrontational, but I am wondering how you would know if the sign came from God or not? The Bible makes it pretty clear that false prophets and demons and (depending on your view of Revelation) the Anti-Christ can do "signs and wonders" as well. It also says that sometimes Satan even dresses himself up as an angel of light. So I was wondering how would you be able to tell if it was God talking to you, or some other evil thing trying to trick you into marrying the wrong person?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:38 pm
by ADXC
Ichi makes a very good argument. How would you be able to tell? I mean Satan can disguise himself after who he wants to get what he wants.
But judging from the statement, "Will you take ____ to be your (wife/husband)?" It doesn't sound like something Satan would say. I mean, I think he would say, "Hey this girl looks very pretty and you may not have a chance to be with her, so you should try to do something tonight!"
Really, Satan doesn't want people to marry(Unless they really did not compliment each other and that they may help each other fall into sin.), he'd rather they just simply fall into immorality which happens a lot.
But if I'm going way to far into theological debate, please tell me. I'd rather not break the rules.

These are my answers:
Psa 36:3 Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do good.
Psa 10:7 Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.
"I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber! But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won't follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don't know his voice." John 10:1-5

questions will be revealed in due time. XD

Now for the next question...
Do you believe god really has someone purfect for you picked out from the beginning??

I would do almost exactly the same thing... I probably wouldn't throw up... just get really close. lol
Do I believe that God has someone perfect for
me picked out from the beginning? No, I'm not sure that God wants
me to get married. As for those he wants to get married (Which may include me, I'm not sure.) I do believe that he has had their spouse picked out since the beginning though I can't find or think of a verse that backs this up at the moment. If anyone can find a verse that confirms or refutes this please share. ^_^

i think God has someone picked out, but we have to make an effort for it to work. in some ways i hope He does have someone for me, and in other ways i don't

If I heard God saying to marry the person before me on the date, I'd have to make sure it wasn't someone playing a prank or my own selfish desire. I know if I were a girl I wouldn't want someone to date me and then say, 'God wants me to marry you'. I'd be creeped out and think the guy was a nutter and probably think about escaping the date quickly. People already use God's name to do their own selfish things, who's to say they wouldn't do the same in a relationship? I think it would be best for both parties to pray about it with each other, with trusted friends and maybe talk to their pastor (if they have one). If the girl feels the same way and you feel God's calling and you don't rush into it, I say 'go for it!'
I don't believe there is the One for a person, I believe there are many possible potential life-partners for marriage. Whether or not we can recognise them is another thing altogether.

If you are truly meant to be today, you'll still be meant to be once you do get to know one another on a deeper personal level down the road ^^

Well from the "Will you take to be your wife/husband?" That really doesn't mean that God is telling you to take them to be your wife or husband. It me, it means that maybe someone to get to know more in a deeper personal level.
I don't believe there is a hand pick person for each person. I feel that God gives you possible options for to find a mate for marriage.
But I don't have to worry about this as I found mine anyway.

That question is a difficult one, because I don't think we can really know. Frankly, I personally don't think it matters if God does have someone perfect for everyone or not. As long as you keep God at the center of your life, you'll go where He leads you.
Concerning your first question, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "voice of God", but something to keep in mind is common sense. Is it really smart or good for either of you to get married right after the first date? Is it good to make an impulse decision on something like that?
Now, if God had appeared to you in a burning bush (or in person), that would be another matter entirely, but since He did not (I don't think, at least), I encourage both you and this lady to do a lot of praying (not together, but just individually with God) and ask Him what's up.
Because honestly, I agree with Ich and W4J. Something doesn't match up no matter how you slice it.
And yes, I agree with Tsuku and Roy. Even if you are meant to marry this lady, will it hurt anything to not rush into marriage and just get to know each other better?

About the second question, it's really hard to say. Love is a peculiar thing because it happens at certain points in certain peoples' lives when they find the one meant for them.
Know that love is not the same thing as lust. You can pretty much lust after anybody you want, but it's hard to love love(What I mean by love love is true love that is held by a husband and wife or a future couple. I'm not talking about the loving your neighbor thing.) just anybody.
So really from me, there isn't a definite answer that is there true love for everyone. However, there is still love to be found for all Christians in God and loving everyone(Although they may not return the feelings.)

This reminds me of a story I heard once: there was a homecoming queen who after homecoming was approached by several different men, each of which told her (and believed quite sincerely) that God had told him to marry her. Clearly, God did not intend for several different men to all marry the same woman. Rather, their attention was drawn to this girl because she was the homecoming queen, and each of those men deluded himself into believing that she was the woman he was supposed to marry. Even if you want to be generous, then one of them might have been right, but all the rest were deluded.
My answer has already been said, and more concisely, but anyways, if I found myself in the scenario you describe, I would think we were both delusional. On one hand, if you psychoanalyze that, we must both like each other very much if each us was self-deluded into believing they heard God tell them to marry the other person. On the other hand, I would have serious worries about my date’s sanity and mine.
The Bible tells us, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the worldâ€

An interesting hypothetical. I'd talk to a close Christian friend, probably one that knows us both. And work out if we both just made it up in our minds, etc. If I was sure it was God telling us, I'd say "thanks God", and then have all the standard pre-engagement and engagement periods to get to know her.
Cheezie_Neko (post: 1413413) wrote:Do you believe god really has someone purfect for you picked out from the beginning??
No, no one is perfect (except Jesus), and if there were, you'd ruin the marriage by being part of it. Not even cats are purfect. There's only the sinful selfish bunch of people from which to choose.
And, what Kaori said.

Oh wow. If that happened, I'd be praying to God to make sure that was actually Him talking. Then I'd pretty much just try and tell her like, "This may sound a bit crazy, and don't freak out or anything but, I think God just told me to marry you." Or something else along those lines.
Second question, Not everything is perfect. I've heard that when it comes to couples throughout relationships, you don't just love eachother by default, you choose to love eachother. It's a commitment you have to be willing to make. Perfect or not.
(I hope that came out right.)

I think the Bible certainly supports that there are people who are good for you, but I don't think God has one single soul-mate created for you from the beginning. God's entire request of us in love is to choose love. Choose to love him, choose to love our neighbors, etc. There will be people with whom you will share a greater compatibility than others, but I think ultimately the romantic thing is that we choose to love someone and God smiles upon it.
Ehm... This might be getting a little theological. Mods, please smack me if I've crossed the line. Let me know and I'll baleet the post.

Is there a particular reason why you are witholding information from those that are trying to help you? Unless you are personally uncomfortable with sharing details of your situation, it would probably be best if we knew what you wanted instead of stabbing around in the dark.
Do you believe god really has someone purfect for you picked out from the beginning??
No. I think that such an idea is a poor attempt at using God to try to legitimize a relationship that can't be legitimized by its own merit. At least, that is how I have seen it used.
Also, I think we are getting into pretty heavily theological or philosphical ground here, so I will just put it this way: If you believe in predestination, then I think God picks out your marriage partner for you the way he picks out the date you are going to die from brain cancer. If you don't, he doesn't steer you towards this magical person any more then he steers you towards that piece of bacon that gives you a heart attack.

I agree with this statement... Also you would have to know to differeniate whether it was God or just your feelings... trust me I've been there and there is a bible verse that says that the heart is deceiving. So I would do what tsuki said and take it under consideration only if you've been together for a long while. if not don't jump to conclusions, cause that could lead you to trouble.

Wait, wha?! Dear God, how did I get a date!? Oh, wait, God's right there--how did I get a date God? And speaking of you, why haven't I been able to hear you before now! You mean to tell me that these "girl" things are actually receivers or some thing? Yes, No? Hmm... maybe if I stick an antenna on her head I can get better reception (Pascal grabs coat hanger and begins to wrap it around the girls head). And here I thought girls were just other people, I didn't know they could bring in transmissions from God-- hey, hold still for a moment. Geh, that doesn't seem to work at ALL!
And another thing God! Why haven't you asked me about this before now God? Huh? I mean honestly... have you been putting this off because it's rather uncomfortable and this ends in pain and bad things for me so you didn't want to talk about it? Because if that's the case it's "no" in fact, independent, I think this whole date has gotten a bit crowded here and so given that I like God better, no offence girl, but I think I'm going to go have a chat with him while he's in the mood for conversation. I mean, I've always wanted a phone line to God, I think you should do the same.
Pascal walks off and continues to talk to God hoping for more responses with an audible voice.---- And now the second question ----
Do you believe god really has someone purfect for you picked out from the beginning??
Yes. No. It's complicated.
