One hundred forty-three years ago, on July 1, 1867, the British North America Act came into effect, uniting the colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada and forming the Dominion of Canada. On June 20, 1868, Governor General the Viscount Monck issued a royal proclamation asking for Canadians to celebrate the anniversary of the confederation.
So let's do that.
Happy Canada Day.

During a particular election, and following one of his benders, Sir John A. MacDonald was forced by his desperate staff to give a speech at a rally. He had this to say on stage:
"Yes, I am drunk, but you'd rather have me drunk than John Brown sober!"
