I would comment, but I'm currently on a school computer, and it's really old. It doesn't work with your site.

In any case, I like Pimsleur for Japanese speaking BEGINNERS, though the vast majority of what they teach you is very formal. Of course, the price makes it inaccessible, but that's why you buy it and share it with as many people as possible (by that I mean loaning out your discs as you finish them, and getting a language learning chain going.)

Once you're done with something like that, then Yes Japan is a great site. Once you learn Hiragana, you should make flash cards with a program called anki.

WHen you make them, make sure they're forward and back, not just forward. Also, I have two sets (not counting my Korean deck). One for words and phrases I write in Hiragana and Katakana, one for new kanji. For each Kanji, I'll have one card for Kunyomi readings, one for onyomi readings, one for meaning, and then I'll do Kanji words. I'll do one for reading and one for meaning. It's a long process, but it works as long as you're HONEST and don't tell it you got the word when you didn't.
