Cliches you don't like

What are some cliches you don't agree with. Here's one to start you off:
"If you want God to laugh, tell him your plans."
I don't like this one because it seems to imply that God either doesn't care about you or that God is a trickster who'll ruin your life.

"A smile is God's best gift to man." I guess smiles > salvation.

There are actually a number of cliches I don't like, but I can't think of any right now, which is probably to my benefit. My Trig teacher in high school used cliches and sayings like it was the cool thing to do and the writer in me writhed in pain at the lack of originality.

LOLOL No. Lie. I got that insipid cliche from someone at school. Shudder. XD

"If you want God to laugh, tell him your plans."

Err... Actually I think that one implies that if you were to tell God your plans, he'd actually care enough to think of how it would turn out, but being God he can see the end while we cannot. Consequence is that he can imagine you suddenly back at his feet after trying it with an angry mob not far behind :P.

He can still care and not interfere with it turning out wrong or leaving you with trouble, but given that he can make it all right at the end, that's why they imply he would laugh.

Hmm... I'll have to think of some Cliche's I really dislike, I'm sure there are a few them.

I had only thought of "cliche" as an adjective until now. Thank you for expanding my knowledge base, Rocklobster.

I would like to have my own catchphrase, to be honest, so I can't complain about cliches. My favorite cliche is, "Well there's your problem!" of Mythbusters fame. Though technically that's probably more of a meme.

I read about a medieval cliche in my English History course. Apparently medieval Englishmen would swear, "By God's bones." A tale of one such person who said this too much said that some ill-fortune befell him. I think something happened to his bones, but I can't be certain. I found that to be quite interesting.

"Tastes like chicken" because every time I've said it in my life, it's actually been chicken.
"Close but no cigar" because whenever anyone says that, I immedietely want a cigar... and often it's not convieniant.

My pastor is a huge baseball fan and uses a lot of baseball cliches like;

"You've got to get off the bench and get your head in the game" or something like that.

The reason I HATE and LOATHE it every time he uses that phrase is due to several years back when I worked in Electronics at Wal-Mart and they played several clips of High School Musical OVER and OVER again and one of the songs had that particular line in it, and GAH! I wanted to KILL myself.

So now I hate that line with a passion. And I hate High School Musical.

The other thing that they played in that department over and over again was James Blunt. I now loathe and hate his music with a passion too.

"You can't push a cart sideways." Usually when this is said to me, it's when someone doesn't want to be involved with something I want to do (even if I do what they want lol) yah. :/

Also with "Want God to laugh, tell Him your plans." I think this implies that God has BIGGER plans for you then even you can imagine. And your plans aren't even close to how amazing His are for you... that's how interpret it anyways. ^^;

Well, that one isn't too far from the mark, since what we want and what God actually has already planned for us are two very different things XD

Kinda like how it seemed my pastor was going down the road of professional baseball.

Not that it hasn't been said to death D:

The internet has made funny bumper stickers unfunny. Especially when I read the same list of them five years ago.

I can't really think of any cliches that I hate, over used internet memes get really old. My little brother thinks he's clever for saying "EPIC FAIL" any time you screw up. Ok, not funny anymore you little twerp...

"You can't judge a book by its cover"

Judging from the "romance" novels i've seen in walmart, i'm assuming you actually can. As if i'm going to sit down and read a book with a half (b)aked lady on the front? I'm going to assume it has half (b)aked ladies within the text as well, and that's the last thing i need to be reading about.

"I'm rubber and you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

I HATE this one. I don't know why, it just bugs me. Same goes for the "sticks and stones" thing. Words DO hurt. :|

Going by the stock of romance novels our bookstore stocks, about half the books are all about men if you go just by the cover. Or more clearly, male torsos.

In movies when girl "accidentally" falls on a guy. It's very cliche to me.

Let's see.. what other one there is..

High School Musical.

I'm sorry but it's not realistic to me. But that's my opinion. Everyone's different. I usually don't like movies like that unless if it's the old musicals from like the 30's, 40's and 50's.
