According to Wikipedia, it's the day that interracial marriages became legal.

Here's a good link. The Lovings, Mildred and Richard, were married in DC, but when they went back to Virginia, they were told to leave or face jail. They fought a long legal battle that eventually resulted in Loving vs. Virginia, when the Supreme Court ruled anti-miscengenation laws unconsitutional in 1967.

What the heck was the rationality of not allowing interracial marriages back in the day? Genetic inferiority or something? Jeez.

I'm glad interracial marriage is legal. Illegalizing it is just completely asinine. That and I don't want to marry an Asian in my future anyway. XD

Yeah, I don't understand why America wouldn't have allowed interracial marriages either! It's not like this country had a history of keeping non-white people as slaves and counted them as only 3/5 of a person and then even when slavery was abolished treated non-whites as second class citizens!

...oh wait.

The key word here is "rationality". There's reason by historical precedent, but it's not rational.

And now . . .

Why this day is amazing. Actually, there are many reasons why, but this is a very good one.
