It's been a long 12 years, but I have finally graduated high school! The graduation was yesterday and was very nice too. Next up is college, oh boy...

Congratulations and good luck! My sister would have been graduating this year, too, but she skipped a grade and graduated last year ^.^ She had an awesome first year of university, and got to know a lot of great people. She goes to a group called Campus 4 Christ, and has met a lot of good friends through that. I hope you do well in college and meet lots of wonderful new people!

This. College owns High School.

But isn't college work much harder than high school work? I mean after two years of AP classes, Im used to writing papers(We wrote alot of papers!). However Im still worried.

But yeah I do see college as way more flexible and you can learn what you want to learn(For the most part. There are some courses you just have to take, I suppose, to be able to do the career you want to do.).

I was thinking about Forensics, but Id have to take college Chemistry, wouldn't I? I didn't like taking it in my junior year of high school and I don't think Id like it now.

If there are any good computer jobs out there, please recommend them to me. I recently finished Microsoft Office and it was perhaps my favorite class because I did the work on the computer rather than paper.

But seriously, congrats on gradutating, ADXC.

College is harder than high school, schoolwork wise, but like it's been mentioned in this thread, it's way more enjoyable (except maybe finals, but those are hard wherever you go XD). In college, most of the students actually care about learning and most of the professors have a strong passion for the subject they teach, so you tend to get a lot out of the classes you take.

And if you're used to writing really long papers and taking tons of notes, you'll be fine. ^_^

This. And you have almost complete control over your course schedule giving you the ability to give yourself tons of free time to do that harder work. The first semester is always an adjustment, but once you get past that, you'll be fine. You'll be surprised probably at how easy college can be (especially if you are a good writer)...

Oh, college isn't such a pain (minus the finances and studying...and food if you're living on campus), you know. You get to build your own schedule, so you don't have, for example, six classes every day. Just make sure to study--and don't procrastinate (especially on papers)! Dedicate some time to review what you learned for the subject you learned for that day.

It's actually pretty nice, and I prefer it over lame old high school.

If I can leave you any advice it is this:

College is a fresh start. You don't have all the labels and whatnot from high school. You can be whoever you want to be. Keep your mind open and accept changes and challenges.

I'm graduated on July 4 ^_^ Than off to University. Man, I'm pumped! You should post grad pics. I sure am, I have a ballin retro dress.

What is sad though is that my best friend is leaving for another college which is about two hours away so I probably won't see him much. I wonder if I'll find any other friends...

My sister went to a different college than her main group of friends. She met a whole load of others at the Christians Reaching Universities group, who were part of the reason she got baptized, and she's become quick and close friends with them. Don't worry. I'm sure you'll make lots of friends ^^ (Sorry, I myself haven't been to college yet, so I can't give any advice from personal experience...)

My high school experience wasn't so great, so college really held some of the best years of my life. I got saved right before my junior year, so I had so many great adventures being a new Christian. For the most part it seems like you really find out more of who you are in college than in high school, and as someone mentioned above, there aren't really labels and such to deal with. If you ever have doubts about what to major in, consider going in undeclared; take the core courses that you need and decide what to do from there, what your strengths are in, and what you really would like to do after the 4 years you're there. I'm doing graduate level work now and I actually think it's way easier than college....more time for it, less credits at once. Definitely stay grounded in your faith though, that's one piece of advice I can offer, especially if you're going to a secular school. There are so many temptations on college campuses nowadays; I look back on things that I did before getting saved and I really regret them. I encourage you to get involved with a Christian campus ministry if there is one.

This is very true. =) I think in our culture, our developing selves around the ages of 18-24 really forces us to look deep within ourselves, thus maturing. For me, I am definitely NOT the same as I was even two years ago...

Yeah, that whole high-school-at-6-years-of-age thing is a real pain.

In college, you will write lots of papers. Trust me. You will get sick of papers, especially when you have several due all at once (usually around finals time). This has been my experience.

As to whether it's harder, it depends. I did junior college first to get my GE so my experience was a little different. I felt prepared for those classes because my high school was good with college prep. But once I hit university, things got way harder.

College does allow you more choice of classes, which I appreciate. Universities in particular have classes in specializations I have never seen classes in before. Even if you have courses you have to take for general education or whatever, you have choices. Taking general education courses is useful to give you a firm grounding in a variety of subjects, as well as help you decide a major if you're undecided.

LOL I'd expect someone with a Detective Gumshoe avatar to be interested in a detective-like job such as forensics. (I'm a Phoenix Wright fan too).

You might have to take chemistry. I took Intro to Chemistry as my lab science GE class and it was pretty cool, but the tests were really hard. I also found out that an empty stomach and HCl fumes don't mix well.

I got a Certificate of Competence in Microsoft Office User Proficient Level at my junior college. It's definitely a worthwhile skill to have. I'm going to try this summer to take the MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) certification test, so I'll be formally certified.

Computers is a growing industry and always a good place to look for work. Junior/community colleges often offer certificates that help you get the necessary skills.

You can also major in computer science, but this generally requires a lot of higher math (including calculus), which is why I didn't major in it (math is my weakest subject).

@ -Frail-Dreams--Thanks! Hey HS may seem like it is going to go by slow, but it actually really fast. Enjoy your HS years because they are the last four years you won't have to work(Unless necessary or because you want stuff.). But if you do work, then you're investing money into the future which is really good for you.
