I'm waiting for someone to come in and say "WHY DIDN'T THEY DO SOMETHING MODERN LIKE GUNDAM SEEEED" like people were doing on another forum. The whole point of doing this is 'cuz First Gundam is 30 years old now. Without First Gundam there would be no Gundam SEED. XD

IMO, I think this kind of wasteful, if you ask me. Here it is, the Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary Project and they are putting money into this and not into any tv series at all.

I wonder if the new UC series that will come out, will be one of the following, A. a movie, B. OVA or C. the series is not even going to be an anime series and nothing more then a manga or D. If it is a series and not an OVA, then I take that it will not even air this year.

Sadly, I feel that Bandai has drop the ball this time around for their Anniversary Project.

Um... Ok. I don't think it's worth going all the way to Japan to see if I've got pics right here.

That would be interesting to see, but I kinda agree with Roy. They could spend their money on something better, or at the very least make some kind of cool feature in it... not just a statue.

Now, if they built a REAL, working gundam, that would be something to write home about. XD

Sorry Roy, Dreamer, but from a business perspective, if Odaiba is selling tickets to fanboys trekking there to see the Gundam, then it's a money-making venture, not a 'waste'. Although I agree I would rather see a new Gundam flick or something.

Dude, the Japanese have ALWAYS been building Gundams... duuuh.

They just keep it a secret.

Well they need to get working on something more useful than that. Iron man suits for instance.

How is this a great business perspective? They are not selling any tickets for this, the statue will be free for viewing, but it will only stay up for two months only.

Sunrise will only get PR out of this. The only thing that it will help is bring people to Odaiba island and that is it.

A bigger business perspective for Sunrise would be making a series for the fans that fanboys would buy the dvds, manga, models kits and so on.

The amount of 20th Century Boys in this thread has given it a level of awesome that goes above the level it was originally meant to achieve.

The Ryans of the forum need to to unite and let everyone who doesn't have the name Ryan the truth!

EDIT *Read Rad's comment*
Well I do believe its a bit of a waste of money unless they're using advertising money and truly believe this is better and will be more widespread. I ran into a huge thread somewhere that discussed a real life Gundam and how a few colleges researched it... It gets a little crazy and to many things wouldn't work out (guess we'll just have to wait till we get farther into the future)

tl;dr

with all the money gained through the franchise, surely they will eventually make a real one that moves at the pace of a snail, haha.

Okay, first... I don't know, because I didn't sit in on the board meeting that day. I admit it's just a guess on my part. But, I just have great faith in Japanese businessmen.

Here's my armchair theory:
Shiokaze park is free, so nobody is paying them to park the mecha on their lot. But it's just a great big hunk of mid-budget fiberglass and rock-tour special effects, so it's not an investment equal to, say, a 30th anniversary TV series. And the fact that Mount Rushmore, the Golden Gate bridge, the Space Needle, the Lincoln Memorial etc. are free to look at doesn't stop folks from buying the tee-shirts and coffee mugs, and anything like that with this image on it will earn a licensing fee. Two months in the summer in Odaiba is a lot of tourist trinket sales.

That's about all I can say about that, though.

Actually it was an anime first, but I hear the manga version is pretty good too.

Edit: Uhhh, unless you were talking about 20th Century Boys, in which case I retract my statement. XD

According to the article, they're only going to keep it up for two months before taking it down...

I guess Gundam really MUST be destroyed...interesting.
