Swrod Fighting

Does anyone like to sword fight??

Me and my friend (5 others) formed an alliance of Christian Swordsman.

We each have our own little sword fighting style. The leader uses a Bokuto (wooden katana) and uses Traditional Japanese Swordfighting thing.

His brother uses a long, slender sword name the Dancing Blade. It's kinda like fencing and traditional japanese sword figthing rolled into one.

One of the members uses a Broadsword and shield. So his is kinda like a knights way of fighting or Ruropean.

One of the members uses a staff. His is very Chinese like.

One member uses a Large sword (2 handed).

I use a Zanbattou (making a new one since mine broke in a fight). A zanbattou is a very large sword. It's used in anime like Kenshin and Naruto. The entire sword was bout 8-9 feet tall and weighed bout 20 pounds. Though I can use it very well (was able to slice a twig in half 2 times :) )

Since my broke, Im thinking bout using two large swords since I'm also good with two swords. As my friends say "I don't ook goo diwth a small weapon...I look scary with a big one." :thumb:

So does anyone sword fight or take practices with real swords?

I'd love to take up some form of swordplay...something that involves a katana or daggers preferrable.

I've yet to wield a sword, but I have a very close friend who's going to the Junior Olympics for fencing. ^^

I wish I could get into swordplay. That would rock. I'd at least like to get a sword or two and maybe a staff just for myself. That'd be fun. ^.^

me and my dad made my zanbattou. It was a broomstick insert into a 2-4 (i think). We made an indet into it to insert it. Then glued the stick in so part of it is inside the blade. We then drilled two smaller peices of wood on top of both sides to hold the stick in. We then put duck tap on the base. It wa svery sturdy but I overestimated it by accidently snapping it in half (where the blade meets the handle...the weakest part).

So now me and my dad are currently looking for a long and large piece of Red Oak to craft into a Zanabttou using one piece of wood. That thing will be indestructable!!!

I've done this sort of thing before. We actually have something almost exactly like this at my school; it's called the melee club, and it is very fun. However, I prefer to fight with my fists:

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5098

Anyway, I own a shinai, which I practice with sometimes, although I don't use it in any martial arts. I will probably take up Kenjutsu at some point, but that might not be for a while (I'm studying Aikido right now :thumb: ).

That's a Cloud sword right there. You're crazy. Nobody can justify a 9 ft. sword.
I have a kendo sword I've never used because I have no one to practice with. I agree, swordplay is cool. Formal training would be pretty cool, but probably not very useful, and too expensive anyway.

If I could find somone to practice with and be able to legitimize having a wooden sword or two in my dorm room I would start learning sword fighting.

what does justify a 9 ft. sword mean...if you mean someone can't use it. My friends actually said I was very good with a very large weapon. The sword itself wasn't that heavy as it could of been. I still have it on my porch with a cloth over it in hopes for one big it will be reforged  (its to broken to be remade)

Thing is, I was fighting the leader of our group. He can beat all of us so thats why he's the leader. The fightr went on for bout....ohhh...I dont know a half and hour (Bokuto "Boken" vs a wooden Zanbattou was fun...we taped it). Well. I bring my sword behind and me and I jump and i bring it and swing it down. The leader had his boken much like kenshin (in a sheath). As the sword swung down, it hit his sword where the blade meets the handle. which made it split and I al;so got smashed on my shoulder. Thats how Suaki the Basher (my swords name) died.

Im thinking though. I could hold Sukai with one hand on the handle (not exaggerating). Im thinking of making two smaller Suakais (6 to 7 feet in ttoal length) and use two of them. That would prove intresting :thumb:

Well...you might have different rules at your school...water guns arn't even allowed at ours, and neither are phillipino fighting sticks.

Yeah...the things you are allowed to bring are very restricted. I don't know everything, but I'm pretty sure we aren't allowed to bring water guns either.

First of all, wrong spelling--second of all, if you've ever been hit by one, you'd know why. Arnis de Mano is frequently referred to as "stick fighting," but the truth is that you work with knives too. The sticks themselves (supposedly) are to be wielded as swords, however some attacks which are good with the stick are useless with the sword and vice versa.

Arnis is good if you want to learn how to wield two blades or want to become ambidextrous.

I would like to get into swordplay. I do own one sword, but its cheap and probably wouldn't work very well. It has a 18" blade and 9" handle, so overall it's 2 feet, 3 inches. I got it for 10 dollars. I've seen a sword I would like to get, but I don't have 4,000 dollars to spend so...

Sabre, Epee and Foil here. Been a while though, since Tucson isn't exactly a fencing hub!

I have basic skills with a katana and bokkun. besides that, not too much sword-fighting. I'd be better with a spear or staff; I am skilled with those.

I like staffs better, but I think I would be better with a sword or knife.

Sometimes I swrod fight with my little brother. I stink but he's worse, so I kick his but and show him no mercy. We use wooden swrods. Actually their katanas but I just wanted an excuse to say swrod again. So anyways, yeah, swrod fighting is pretty fun.

That sounds fun. ^^ I don't like to get in fights, and I have no idea how to use a sword. It is entertaining when us homeschool kids beat each other up with sticks sometimes...except all the guys around here are a lot bigger than me and I usually end up getting the most bruised/scraped/whapped upside the head, heheh.

I love homeschooling. No evil guys to pick on you and steal your lunch (along with whatever else you have), or girls that pull your hair and call you nasty names, etc. etc....

In a real fight, I just run as fast as my poor little legs will carry me! I have to make sure I don't get into close combat or, being the frail, thin girl I am, it's all over. One time there was a narrow pathway around the corner, so I waited until my "opponents" caught up with me and smacked the first one in the face as hard as I could. The other guy ran straight into him and that gave me enough time to get away. The first one laughed at me but as I rounded the next corner I heard him go "owwwww!". It was pretty funny, but I wasn't going to stop and gloat. Those two gave me quite a scare. O_O;

What's up with people these days? I wish one of you sword-wielding CAA-ers could magically appear and vanquish jerks who like to pick on helpless civilians...T_T

That would be a sight.

Of course I have knives, but if I stab someone I'll end up in jail, and that would be worse than...well, maybe not...

Stupid justice system.

Thank God I'm blessed enough to live in a nice neighborhood now. :) No need for swords, knives, or fists here.

Hey, I homeschool, and all I can say is that Osaka is some kind of bully. You think girls pulling out your hair and calling you nasty names is bad?! You should see onee-chan, she's a monster!

I'm joking naturally. I'm sorry you experienced that. All I can say is, if I saw some guys chasing you, I would definitely jump in there and whoop some butt! :thumb:
