Dirty Secrets of College Admissions

I know many for the members here are looking into college admissions, so I thought I would share this article for everyone who wants to know the truth behind college admission procedures, or just laugh at how stupid it can be.

On that note, I like the oboe.

And asians. :3

No comment on the white girls form Jersey though. XD

This is why I transferred from a community college Image

Also the lack of requirement to take the SAT was a plus.

That's why the essays are important and why it's never good to be a "model" student. It's not really a dirty secret, XD. It's all about how you present yourself.

The last anecdote warmed my icy, black heart just a little. You get a bunch of loot from your favorite TV show for free because the guy thinks he's getting his kind into college . . . then tell him that the kid isn't making the cut. Twistedly fun.

XD i'm already accepted into the school of my choice for the fall 2009 semester and I'm still at communty college. Plus, it's cheaper, and you get the same classes with a better teacher/student ratio...

Love the last part: ‘Thanks for the cool package, but there’s still no way your kid is getting into this college.”

That is amazing....sad, and probably was very disapointing...but still amazing.....

lol. I'm enrolled into a community college too. people laugh, but we have some really awesome professors here. One of our science teachers worked at NASA. :thumb:
I believe that as long as you get the degree you want, the exact college don't really matter. Unless you're going for a really specific degree or something...

But...most of the admissions officers seemed to be from Ivy League schools and/or Northeast colleges. Yay for one-sidedness?

Amazing XD

I'm thinking of working in admissions, just for kicks. It's like... you hold the destiny of hundreds to fearful, anxious kids in the palm of you hand... SUCH POWERRRRR

Yeah... Every job has a few bad apples, I guess.

Hit the JC (community college) first, then transfer into a big-league school. It's a cheaper, more gentle exposure to college life, and you can play around a little more. You can also make sure you've gotten most of your GE out of the way, and that can expose you to options you may not have otherwise considered (major-wise).

Thats what a lot of our teachers and councillers are telling us actually.

If we're tight on money, unsure of what we're doing, or don't have the grades to get into University, we're supposed to go to College, then transfer to University, as long as everything is accredible.

Interesting. I think it kind of sucks though that something like food can sway an opinion of a student. Lol at the last story though.

Reading that article has made me more grateful for community colleges.

Beacuse if Community Colleges accepted students like the other ivy league universities, then almost nobody would be attending college. lol
