Siphonophorae or Siphonophora, the siphonophores, are an order of the Hydrozoa, a class of marine invertebrates belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. They are colonial, but the colonies can superficially resemble jellyfish; although they appear to be a single organism, each specimen is actually a colony of Siphonophora. The best known species is the dangerous Portuguese Man o' War (Physalia physalis)

Funny how deep sea creatures are also the weirdest looking creatures.
The Portuguese Man Of War isn't rare but they do look awesome.

Those Portugese Men of War (we call them Blue Bottles) are everywhere on our coasts, I got stung by one once... it wasn't fun, it hurt like hell, wrapped itself around my leg...

They wash up on our shorelines, though, and my brother and I always had mountains of fun dropping bricks on them to pop 'em... guess I was just asking to be stung...

I don't know why people want to look for life in outer space when we have tons of creatures like that in the deep ocean that have yet to be discover.

you get more results looking for deep sea life ( ten million times the results vs. sending a rover to mars.)

Whats cool about the "man of war". Is that it's just a bunch of individual creatures that come together to make one unit.
