Congratulations, Althaia on getting your permit!

What do you mean SP1 will be helping her learn to drive? I would think if she has a permit, she should know how to drive. Or do you mean like getting better at driving by practicing?

In most states, a permit/learner's permit is given after you take driver's ed and pass the written test. Then a parent/guardian/25+ or 18+ person must drive be in the car training you for about six months. After that, you can't drive at night or transport minors for another six. And if you reaaaally live in a bleedin' heart socialist state like *coughcough* California *coughcough* you have to enroll in and pay for driving school to get your full liscence (though I'm pretty sure this was only CA).

In any case, congrats Althy! Those paper tests are tough - I mean, who cares if you run over a pedestrian? Er... Good job, girl!

Okay so it's the latter. Im sorry I was mistaken. I knew the driving law for permit drivers, I just didn't realize that is what she meant.

lol learner's permit. Good times having my dad freak me out more than anything I actually did while driving, XDD.

In my state, you can get your permit before you take driver's ed., but you have to take it before you get your license.

LOL, just don't be like my mom and refuse to be in the car with her even after she's gotten her license, XDD.

At the age of 16 (Ky) you can go in and take a written test to get your learner's permit. They have a website for the kids to go to study and take practice tests. She has to have 60 hours of training with a parent (50 daylight & 10 night ) before she can get a Intermediate license this is were they go for the driving test and addt'l 4 hours of training then after a total of a year she can get her full license.
Six months w/ permit and six months w/intermediate license.

Man that sounds complicated! Over here you go through that much trouble to get your Pilot's License!!! Well, for once South Africa actually made something do-able!

Here you do a written test for your learner's license, and once you have that you can pretty much go for your Driver's License anytime, you just have to comply with K53 standards so going to a driving school is advised. All this is only valid IF you can get an appointment for either one... and on time... our public services are ever so slightly lacking...

It's similar in my state. At 15 and 9 months you can take a written or computerized test at the MVA and you can get your permit before you take driver's ed. Once you pass, you can get your license as soon as 16 and 3 months and the permit is good for a year. You have to take driver's ed., get 60 hours of drive time including 3 with a driver's ed, instructor and 10 night hours. Once you get your license, you can't drive non-family members for the first five months and you can't drive past 12 or something.

Yeah that does sound complicated. Well Im just glad that I have my license. Oh and guess when it expires? In the year of 2016! So Im legal for 8 years provided that I don't break the law or anything.
