Cloning...

Before I say anything, I'd like to say I fully know this is a questionable topic. I don't mean any harm (mostly just want to ask questions), but if any mods think it needs to be shut, please go ahead and do so.

Anyways, lately the whole cloning thing has been bothering me. Like satan's trying to use it as a way to make me disbelieve in God, which I know is dumb. There is totally a God, and if He let something get cloned? Then that was His choice.

Still though...can anybody who knows much about this topic possibly speak up? They always mention that dumb sheep Dolly, but was Dolly even really a clone? Last I knew they can't actually achieve cloning (I mean there's quite a lot that goes into it that we can't possibly do), so what was that?

I mean, the only thing I can guess is that they took a sheep fetus and messed around with it--and THAT is possible. Mind you it's not a freaking clone, you could try and mess it up to look similar to another sheep's fetus, but in the end it's not a dang clone.

So either way, does anyone really know? I mean, I must say, I do find it rather funny and questionable that Dolly was a "clone" and yet she's been very "hush hush" over the years. Heck, even after she came out she was kept very quiet....if she was really a clone, you'd think they'd want to scream it to the mountains and show the world how they accomplished this feat. It's also interesting that nobody else has ever cloned anything since then. Yes cloning is illegal, but since when has stopped psychos?

I don't know why cloning is illegal. It makes no sense. I see zero problem with cloning.

The reason Christians are against it, from what I've seen, is that they think once cloning becomes accepted we will merely clone fetuses for use in harvesting organs. Or maybe they think it'll be like that movie Parts: The Clonus Horror (which you non-MST3K fans may know as The Island).

Anyway I don't see this thread staying open long, so whatever. XD

The major problem I have with cloning, human cloning in particular, is that I don't believe that we humans have the skills or responsibility to use it properly.

Concerning "Dolly": She was considered a clone and there was considerable coverage of her cloning, but the clone did not survive well at all.

True, but the same can be said of any advancement in science or technology, and we've done all right for ourselves so far.

Besides we'll never develop the skills or responsibility if we ban it. You can't learn how to ride a bicycle if you don't get on one.

I think we should be able to clone organs, but not whole humans. Think of how many people could be helped if they could have their kidneys/hearts/whatever replaced with clones of their own organs.

If we ban it, we'll never develop the skills, yes. However, the responsibility issue stems from worldview. It is irrelevant whether it is banned or not. You can't learn to ride a bicycle if you don't get on, but you can sure learn that running people down on the bike is wrong.

Let me make it clear that I have no stand either way as far as a ban goes. I am simply wary of our messing with humans in this way. There are many ways this could be used unethically, and it concerns me. That's it.

Organ cloning makes lots of sense to me, as long as the organs work better than the cloned sheep did.
