<MOD EDIT: AH THE MAGIC OF SNOPES (SEE POST 10)>did you know the you can nuc stuff with you cell phone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vonzh0QTFEI&NR=1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPf8dXsZ1PE&NR=1I stumbled across this video on youtube. Interestingly enough, Cell phones use a radio frequency range that is vary close to the frequency all microwaves use. It dose rase some interesting questions about the safety of using a cell phone say in a crowded elevator.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQr6SbYpTYM&watch_responseWild!! I think I just fond another good reason never to get a cell phone.

I severely doubt this for various reasons based on physics, logic and how the videos are presented.

I'm gonna try this on tuesday, and see if it works...

1. Microwaves have a power rating of around 1000W. A mobile phone does not have anywhere near that power radiated.
2. Power drops off with radius squared, so PUT THE PHONES AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE POPCORN!
3. Phones are omnidirectional, and to increase the chances of it working, you'd need to attach a very directional antenna that's aimed at the corn.
So in conclusion, they have something under the table that's doing it.
The Japanese one had the best timing though.

The last one definitely looked fake to me; The first two I could maybe believe if I saw it with my own eyes. Either way, it doesn't strike me as a reason not to get a cell phone; just don't put a bunch in a circle and try to pop popcorn :3

That was amazingly awesome. I always knew that some sort of great and terrible evil lived inside cell phones.

As W4C noted, the output of a standard kitchen microwave is orders of magnitude greater than a cellphone's output (which is about 1 W of power). Also, your kitchen microwave is designed to work at a specific frequency that is related to the resonant frequency of water. In other words, unless your cell phone is tuned to that band it will not produce the same heating effect. "Microwaves", by the way cover the frequency range from a few hundred MHz to a few hundred GHz, so there is no requirement for communications devices to operate in such a narrow band.

You guys didn't see this last year with the egg?
[ 10 posts down, and a first link to snopes. I'm disappointed. ]

Woa, good thing I'm not a corn kernel!
Or an egg.
Or anything a cellphone is claimed to fry. XDDD

The first video was best. It had the best production quality and the reactions of the people really sold the experience. I wonder if they were all in on it.
The last one was the worst. They set the table cloth on fire? Idiots. Probably using standard kernels without any oil on them.

The only thing cell phones fry is people's brains when they're driving :-P
