Has anyone done/doing postgraduate study? If so, what in?
I'm considering doing a PhD in Engineering, but I'm not sure at this stage...

I'm currently going for a Ph. D in chemistry, specifically biological chemistry with a heavy dose of analytical. I just finished my first year and am working on my research this summer.

I was under the impression that PhDs were purely research-based.
It is true that PhD students have much less of a life than undergraduates?
What was your motivation for doing a postgraduate study? (could be aimed generally at everyone in the thread too)

I'm near to the end of my own (Thank God!). I've had to put up with so much BS from our corporate partners, I really lose sight of why I started this whole thing sometime. I did it because I wanted to go further in my field and to learn more through research.

I am contemplating pursuing a master's degree in International Studies/English, because I think I might want to teach English as a Second Language at the university level. I don't really want to do more papers/midterms, and I have no idea where I'd get the money...but it beats waiting tables again while I wait for my boyfriend to graduate.
