Would you run for political office?

With all the stuff that's been going on because it's an election year, I was wondering if any of you out there have ever considered running for political office. I don't think I would for this reason: When you are a politician, your life is no longer private. Any skeletons in your closet become ripe for everyone to see.
What about the rest of you?
Note to mods: This is not meant to be a political discussion per se. I am merely trying to make people step back and think about how they'd handle the position.

No.

If for some reason, people WANTED me to lead them, I will echo the Sherman Statement:

"If nominated, I will not run; if elected I will not serve."

Come on, don't tell me I'm the ONLY one who desires national power?!

Short of some truly pressing local issue, I don't think I'd be at all interested in running for office. I'm really just not that interested in dedicating my career to politics. Fortunately, the sorts of issues that might compel me to consider running don't exist around here.

No for two reasons...one I would only want to run for president so I could enact a foreign policy of "Nuke'em till they glow" and two devoting my entire life to politics just isn't my cup of tea...

Of course I've considered running, its my back up plan if I don't get accepted into a physics department... then I'll make them all come begging at my boots when I get office for departmental funding mwah ha ha hah, REJECT ME WILL YE! Or maybe I'd gain a benevolent side and go forward to proclaim forgive and forget ,the more funding for science the better, now change ye evil ways and accept more grad students!

EVERYONE loves Dr. EEEEEEVIL Mwah ha ha... you don't even have to be bad, you just have to claim to be a villian.

Absolutely not.

It'd be a total waste of my time. I despise politics.

...Why not, hey.

It's not like I definitely want, but if I had an issue and a hope of getting elected, as a politician one can actually make a great difference than an individual voter. Dictatorial power plz. We complain about politicians being crap all the time; why not change something about it?

And then some political offices are useless. o_O And the pay's not always amazing.

. . . nope. I'm more of a behind the scenes person...If I did end up in politics I'd probably be an assistant or something. Like organizing and what not. But an actualy position...nah.

NO! I think running for political office causes too many problems and angry people and premature aging.

I have an aversion to any position that leaves half the population of the country hating me from day one.

No. Too risky. Too many assassins. :P

'Sides, I couldn't run for president even if I wanted to.

You know...I've considered it...and at this time in my life I really don't think it'd be wise o puruse that......maybe when I'm like really really older....By then I would hope to be a better and wiser person......

.....So, baisically, unless God says otherwise.....no......

No... the only reason I would even consider going into politics is for the game aspect. Politics I think could be very fun... if you don't care about any issues and are there just to play "the game". You're fighting for house seats, control in the senate, control in the white house, control of congress. You lie and back stab to get the people to follow you in you're march for power. Control armies, destroy economies, build legacies etc etc etc... umm ya I think I'll quit playing games like Conquest of the Empire and Civilization now...

Realistically, no I'd be horrible at it and I have no interest in politics what so ever.

Another reason I wouldn't consider poltics is that I'm really not that dishonest of a person (I hear it's a common trait in asperger's people like myself). I'm not naming names, but let's face it the media have really ruined politics. It doesn't matter which side you're on, if they can find something nasty to smear you with, they'll do it whether it's true or not. And then, even if it's not true, you have to live with those accusations and the fact that people believe them.

The staff just wants to thank everyone for not turning this into a bickering match. Since I'm here, though, I'll answer the question:

Not a chance. Politics is a system that viciously protects its own interests and it's next to impossible to create real change. I may vote for the lesser of two evils, but I'd rather not become one.

I said no, but that's only at this particular time in my life. I might think differently later. I've run for various church offices, etc, because I feel I can make a positive difference there. I'm not very interested in state or federal office at this time, though.

I'm actually surprised that CAA has such a high percentage of people who *are* willing to run. The demographic we appeal to has not, historically speaking, been inclined to believe in "the system" so to speak. In the interest of heading off debates before they start, deciding whether this is a *good* or a *bad* surprise is left as an exercise for the reader.

Come to think of it I've never really been sure on this one. I think however that the big reason your life no longer becomes private is because whom ever is running against you will try to expose all the skeletons in your closet that way your opponents can get you to lose votes so they can get more votes >__<.

I guess if I really had to I would. But like I said I'm not too sure.

Yes,because of all the free baseball games you get to go to and as Bubba proved chicks love pols!

Ok...joking there.

Seriously though if there came a time when I was asked to do so I wouldn't
hesitate to say yes.I feel it is a duty and obligation to serve one's country if they are asked in any matter possible, including running for office.
