So how many of you has this happened to?:You sit down to enjoy a nice anime or whatever DVD and then all of a sudden in the middle of it the screen freezes up on you.So you check the DVD and clean it and then you try again and the same thing happens. So you clean the DVD player and then try again and STILL the stupid thing freezes. So you put in a second DVD and it seems to work well for a bit and then when you're half way through the stupid machine freezes again!:bang::bang:
This is what happened when I was watching Giant Robo in Wednesday night.

So after a while I got tired and went to bed.Yesterday I googled freezing
DVD players and found it seems to be quite a common problem.Indeed the only thing, aside from trashing it and getting a new one,is apparently to unplug it for a period of time in order to let the machine reset and reboot.

To be honest I do have a love/hate relation with my DVD player as most of the time it works just fine but there are those occasions like Wednesday when it really likes to bollix me.

And yes,I did read in my research yesterday that this is a problem that is common to all DVD players even the ones that come with computers have been known to freeze up on occasion. So I guess no matter what type you have sooner or later it might happen to you as well.

I guess everything has the potential to mess up sooner or later. No matter how great they are. It's bound to happen sooner or later. Rather it be something big or small.

yeah we had a DVD player for about 2 and a half years and then it just stopped working. We took it in to an electronics store and the guy said it would just be cheaper to buy a new one. >.< So we ended up with a new one and the old one is collecting dust in our storage room... sad really...

Just while we are on the topic of DVD players does any one have problems with computer DVD players not playing certain discs? I have Howl's Moving Castle and it plays fine in my normal DVD player but the computer won't read it... its very annoying. Any one else have this problem. Sorry this is off topic**

Happened to me when I was watching....LOTR I think? My mom returned the DVD but we later found out it was the DVD player (when it did it to the others).

I'm not a tech person, but it just sounds like something in the dvd isn't compatable (sp) with the computer in the dvd player itself o.o

Well I unplugged the DVD player and let it set for a few hours on Thursday and also did some dusting.Yesterday it worked normally,no freezing or anything else out of the normal. So I guess it must have been a lot of dust collecting in the machine.

Oh yes, our DVD player does that. Not all the time though, but every once in a while to keep us on our toes. We usually resort to finishing the movie on the computer. The last time this happened though, it was the DVD we rented that was scratched or something since it didn't play on any device we tried.

I'm not an expert but have you thought that it might be a "region code" problem. All the anime we have in my country are imported so they're very rarely in my region. The computer asks for its region setting to be changed before it will play the DVD, but you can only do this a set number of times, after which it stays on the last region you set it too (as far as I know). Our DVD player is multi-region though so I can watch it there. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

I also have Howl's Moving Castle, I love it :thumb: and incidentally, it's region 1 (not my region).
