kitty cat

Well, my mother in law is getting a cat for me! ^_^ The kittens were born last sunday. We are very interested in one of the light gray ones. The one we like is all gray, with a white mask over his eyes *oh so cute*. However, my m.i.l's cousin *the one who's cat had the kittens* think's it's a male. Janet *m.i.l* doesn't want a male cause they spray. I've heard if you get them fixed early they don't? We have other animals at home though. Two chihuahua mixes, a red healer, and a calico cat. Would having them lead him to spray *if it is a he at all*? any info would be nice. also, here's a pic of the cutie. :) sorry about it being blurry. phone camera and all. eck.

*Dies* SOOOO... KAWAII!!!!!!!!

Awww what a sweetie he/she is! As for spraying, I've never owned a male cat myself but I've heard that they are generally more territorial. If you get them neutered early (once it's safe to do so of course) it does help to stop them from spraying as opposed to having an uneutered 1 year old male. Getting him his own litter box, bowls, bed, ect. and keeping them in a separate room from the others pets might help too.

Also, is your calico male or female? Because with two cats, you usually want to aim for opposite genders so they don't fight or get as territorial.

Aww! So cute!! I LOVE kittens! ^^

We had two male cats and they didn't start spraying until they were older. From my experience, if you just make sure not to wait and to get him fixed when he's old enough you should be okay.

We've had a few male cats, but never any problem with them spraying, not even with other dogs and cats around. Neuter it as soon as possible and I think you should be fine. I suppose it ultimately depends on the cat though. It's amazing how different their personalties are from one to the next. All cats are not the same.

I lived with a male cat last year (my roommate's cat Maverick). We had him neutered as soon as he was old enough. He never sprayed and got along somewhat ok with Pebbles (he liked to slap her in the rear end and run away). Male cats can be sweeties --just make sure you neuter as soon as he's old enough--once those hormones kick in, then he will spray even if you neuter him later.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

UPDATE:
well, janet said no to him cause he's definitely male. So we went back today to see the two females. well, we fell in love with the first one. She's the lightest of them all. Then we looked at the other...and lo and behold...a male. so...either way we were getting the only female. Here's some pics that her cousin took of her and the litter.

btw: we ended up naming her "button" cause she's as cute as one.
