Fan translation groups...?

(Hmmm... I'm not quite sure about the mod's opinion on fan-scanlating. If there's a problem, I will have no objection to a mod swiftly taking an ax to this thread.)

For some time now, I've been in joining a fan scanlation group (or whatever they're called ). It's had my interest, and it looked like fun.

Does anyone know about this, and/or how I could get involved in one?

As scanslation is still technically copyright infringement (the images are protected by international copyright agreements), I doubt this thread will last long.

(But seeing as it's still here, I'll pitch in.)

[clipped] There are forums for scanlation groups recruiting for editors, translators, QCers, scanners, etc. Usually the better groups will require some kind of previous experience; if you're looking to be an editor or scanner, there are online guides to help, but experience is still pretty much preferred. Also, they will probably ask for more than just a minimal time commitment from you.

Some small startup scanlation groups (like mine *cough cough*) might not require that much experience if they're really desperate.

Fansubs and scantilations are a rather gray legal area and probable minefield, so I'd suggest Minakichan remove those sites and we take this discussion to PM.

Regardless about how any of us feel about scanlations, links to them on our forums could be a legal liability. Therefore this thread is locked.

...but minakichan's first site was probably the best answer. PM me if you didn't see it.
