The Haleys belong to haplogroup R1b which originates in Western Europe.
The question now is wheter or not Alec Haley,the ancestor of Chris and Alex,was the son of the Irish overseer Baugh,as the Haleys believe,or of the plantation owner Haley.Since many slaves,including the children of slaveowners and white workers such as the Haley overseer,took the name of the owner perhaps another YDNA test is going to have to be taken to compare Chris Haley's result with that of a white Haley and Baugh descendant.
In either case it is rather interesting addition to the ROOTS saga.
