I agree...the Katana is a cool sword. After watching Rurouni Kenshin and The Last Samurai, II have to say that I favor the katana.

I also like this, which is a variant of the Katana designed to incorporate the best elements of western swords into the basic design:

Why settle for a katana when you can have a full daisho! Amaze your friends and terrify your enemies as you dance a dance of death with your paired katana and wakizashi--add even more fun if you buy the optional tanto! ;)

I'd take one of those freakishly over sized swords any day! you know, the ones that are like 2 feet wide and 6 foot tall, yea you know what I'm talking about, and it'd be made out of mythril so it'd wiegh like nothing!

Or for more realistic, a Carbon-polymer, laser sharpened FFX sword with microscopic air bubbles. The laser would make it super sharp and the polymer based material and air bubbles would make it super light.

A true sword for the future!

If we're talking big swords, nothing beats a 7-foot-long German zweihander. :P Except maybe a Scottish claymore. Don't even have to sharpen those things--just bludgeon your plate-armored foe to death with a sword.

I'd settle for nothing less than an Elven sword made in Gondolin, before its fall.

Katanas are generally light, if you get a good one. Also, it would be EXTREMELY hard to do BattouJutsu with a European styled straight sword...eh, I just favor nearly anything Japan, even though I'm American...I know I wouldn't get a good response from that at school...meh heh. (I also like giant boomerangs, even though I can't throw a small one correctly...lol)

Hmm.... I like Katanas. Long swords are cool. Rapiers and Estocs are deadly. Claymores nice, but I doubt I want to carry it around. Gladius, I love this sword... I don't know why. Scimitar, good fer throwing. Those are my picks.

I understood it as a reference to The Hobbit, where Thorin and Gandalf find the two Elven-swords Orcrist the Goblin-Cleaver and Glamdring the Foe-Hammer ("that the king of Gondolin once bore..."). Were you aiming at something more specific? ;)

I know, katanas rock, but I'd go with the *ahem* blade. Or, in an ideal world where swords were reasonably priced and legal to carry, a pair of double edged strait swords, each about thirty-two inches in length, with a 27 in. blade. They blades would be about two finger tips wide at the tang ( full, of course), tapering to one and a half an inch before the point. They would be surgically sharp. Also, they would have a minimalist hand gaurd. Not a basket cage, but almost an extended half moon along the first two inches of the blades. The pommels would be set with hematite, engraved with a cross caedus. The blades would be marked as well, with herons in the endless knot.

Yes, I have been dreaming of these swords for a while.

No, not really. Not one commented on it, though, so I wondered if I was misunderstood or something. I get that a lot. I guess people my age are not as well read as I am.....

What are the actual laws for sword carrying in the United States (I imagine it is a state-by-state matter, so just list the laws in your area). I mean, is it really illegal to carry a sword, or would people just look at you funny?

I know a lot of people who carry rather large knives, so perhaps there is a cut-off length for swords. Time for research...

My understanding of Indiana law is that it's okay to own them, it's even okay to carry them in public, just as long as you have it sheathed and "peace-knotted," so to speak. By peace-knotting, I mean using a rope or cord to get in the way of drawing the blade quickly.

a nanosword. a sword which its blade is made of nanomechanical robots, who continuously sharpen themselves. sharp to molecular levels. never gets blunt either. i wouldn't mind that sword at all.

but wooden swords for me. it is absolutely |33t to pwn someone with it if they use metal swords.
