so, how many people here are hardcore roller skaters/skate boarders?!

I used to be big into skateboarding....but i found out i wasn't really talented in that area. so i gave it up. but i still occasionally ride around with a few friends.

as for roller skating, I've been into that since i was like 8. i actually work at a roller skating rink as a floor supervisor, in short, I'm the dude that skates around the rink yelling at people/kicking them out. =)

I <3 roller skating.

I love roller skating too. Havn't done it in awhile. Just bought some blades for my hubby so we can skate together..allthough if how he ice skates shows how he might rollerblade...I think I'll tie some pillows around him. ^^,

Oh! Oh! Pick me!

I've been roller blading for the past 6 or 7 years. I try to go out when I can although I don't go out as often as I used to.

I also ice skate, which I try to do every week to keep myself healthy. I'm above average but no professional.

I skate board once in a while and loved to roller blade a while back at a rink (to many bumps on the side walk around here slow me down). I used to love to right at full speed and just lean all the way into the curves to the brink of causing my skate wheels to loose their frictional grip and just slip on the floor... did actually do that a few times (crash bang slide...).

I am currently TRYING to learn to skateboard now at age 21... go figure, never to old to learn :P. Getting better, but I'm still having trouble just staying on the board... once again I wish I were little shorter, then I could stay on the skate board easier :). I think that one is supposed to lean into the curves there in order to turn as well, providing a few kicks back to gain momentum once in a while.... but what a LARGE turning radius, sheesh, how do you kids turn 'em so rapidly? I can't imagine travelling any distance on it!

I'll share a deep dark secret. I used to figure skate when i was like ten. (16 now)

so i figure thats how i'm so 1337 on my switchabouts and shuffling.

but, I prefer quads (2 wheels on each side) as opposed to actual roller blades. i think there alot easier to turn around in and stuff. =D

A man should be proud to have figure skated. I wish I could claim to have figure skated in my youth.

How difficult would you say it is to switch to quad skates from inline? I'm interested in a pair of quads on my own, largely for the old-school appeal and to be different [since so many use inline skates today]. Do the newer ones handle surfaces like asphalt well?

I love roller skating and skate boarding, but I tend to do more roller skating over the other. I gotta get a new pair though, I wore the last pair out, the wheels barely have any rubber left on them.

I remember when you still strapped your roller skates to your regular shoes.

I did that as well, i'd say it's not to hard. took me like 10 minutes to get the hang of. it's almost the exact same thing really.

and about the asphalt question. I really wouldn't know. never really bladed with anything outside. except my board.

LOL! I've only fallen down twice, but watching a lot of hockey has helped, watching how to use my upper legs and hips to move. I just need to work on cross-overs, and going backward and oh yeah...stopping. :red:

yeah, when I wanted to stop I just skated in a circle to slow down till I could stop. I think I still prefer roller blades though. ^_^
