Online Japanese movie store?

Postby bakura_fan » Mon Oct 08, 2007 5:04 pm

I want to find a good online site that I can buy authentic Japanese movies on. I've become quite wary of Ebay due to increasing authentic looking products. So..any recomendations? I'm mostly looking for live action movies, but a mix of anime too wouldn't be bad. The movies I'm mainly looking for at the moment are the Death note live action ones, and some of...>_< what's his names movies. lol. Akira Kurasowa? I think...The Seven Samurai was one of his films. So any help would be much appreciated! ^_^ thanks.

My favorite source for Asian CDs is Yesasia.com, and they have a large selection of movies as well. I've done quite a bit of business with Rightstuf.com as well.

Make sure that you know what zone you are buying, though. Be careful you get zone 1 for US players (I'm assuming you are in the US). DVDs for Japan are zone 2 and Hong Kong are zone 3. Also, be careful you don't buy a VCD (common lower quality format in the Asian market) unless your DVD player can handle VCDs. Finally, make sure if you need English subs, that they are on the title you are buying. Don't assume it.

[EDIT: I just went to that site to look for zone 1 DVDs and found that in Japanese original language, they have virtually nothing (they do have some Korean stuff.) So forget Yesasia unless you have a region 0 player. Yes, region 0 players really exist: regionalization is considered illegal in a few countries, such as New Zealand, so DVD players are required to have no region coding there. You can special order the players for such markets from a few places.]
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.
