Username Pronounciations?

Postby Okami » Sat Aug 18, 2007 6:46 pm

I'm just curious to how you pronounce your username.

Now the correct way to pronounce mine, Okami ('Ookami') would be: Oh-kahm-ee [or something close to that] ...I think.... </confidence>

But that's not the way I pronounce it nor have I ever (I've had this nickname for five years) I pronounce it Ooh-Cam (as in Camera) - Ee

Why do I pronounce it differently? Just the way I originally learned it, I suppose. It sounds unnatural to me when I hear it pronouced "in"correctly because I've been so used to the way my best friends say it when we talk to each other using our nicknames....
(Hey, it's just easier to call out to eachother at school this way because our names are sooooo generic and we just want to make sure we grab the right person's attention, ya know?)

Anywho, what about you guys? Some are pretty obvious, while others...not so much. So let's hear it!

Mine is spelled MEE-beck. Really it's like two words: me beck. Yes there is an O. Yes it's silent. There's even a CAA member who used to call me Silent O.

That's "Mangafanatic", which is pronounced "How-did-u-get-sow-beau-tea-full-and-char-ming?"

JUST KIDDING! It's basically-- as close as I can get-- "mahn-guh-fun-at-ic." Or something close to that. :)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

mine should be pretty straight forward, but for the sake of those who might not know...

Yeshua - (Ye-shoo-uh) - original hebrew name of Jesus (yes, Yahshua is also a form of the same name)

Knight - (nite) - no, it's not pronounced like the crazy french solider in monty python and the holy grail, you don't say the k, it's just there, like meboeck's o, silent, but oh so deadly, k?

I think mine's pretty straight forward. XD I used to have an old nickname based on my old username that no one *coughcoughNatecoughcough* knew how to pronounce, though.

My old username was "Rurouni_Kaoru", and in the chat, I was often called "Kaorrie" (Kaoru + Corrie = Kaorrie). I always pronounced it as "cow-ree", but some people thought it was "kay-or-ee" or something like that. XD To this day, I'm certain it was pronounced "cow-ree", though, and I don't even use the nickname anymore. XD

Funny, like Okami I have the tendency to pronounce things despite what the actual pronunciation is sometimes^^ For Rii, I always thought "ray-nur-moo-ras". Why? I don't know^^ Just... happens sometimes, although yeah I do understand Japanese phonetics^^

Stranglely enough in Meboeck's case, I think "mee-bee-ok" so I somehow reverse the 'e' and 'o'^^

Yeah, maybe I DO have slight signs of dyslexia^^ My mind likes to mix letters up :/

WRYYYY is most popularly pronounced as "REEEE," although a more unconventional use has been "URRYY," salted and peppered with as many Es or Ys as necessary to express length.
