kissy or heart?

I've heard people say that <3 is a kissy face, but I've also heard it is a heart. Is suppose it could be used as both. What do you use it as?

On FaceBook, it changes into a heart, so, therefore, I think it's a heart, but it could be a kissy face for all we know, LoL!
