Tattoos?

(mods, could you please move this to a place this is supposed to be in? I didnt know where to put it.)
Do you think getting a tattoo is bad?
I've been thinking of getting one for a while, like.. 8 months. It's a Christian tattoo, though.
i want Isaiah 61: 1-3 tatttooed under it.
It means a lot to me.
it's kind of like a story. it starts at the thorn vine. the Vine represents the pain and suffering, the heart represents God's love and Grace for us.Then the cross represents how Jesus died on the cross for us. the crown represents how God is the king of my life, and the wings are God's protection around me.
Isaiah 61 1-3 is my favorite verse. It's like.. my life verse.
anyway, yeah.
I think i want it on the inside of my forearm, but i'm not sure. any suggestions?
(tis my design by the way, i drew it on myself.) XP v

My thoughts with tattoos have changed over the years. First I thought the ink was bad for you, then I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to mark your body for life like that, then I thought "they're neat, but not for me" and now, I MAY get one one of these days, but still a wee bit of a chicken^^ and the fact that it would take a LONG time finding the exact design I'd want to be marked with, plus is the idea of where to put it. I LOVE some of the full back wing tattoos, I hear over the shoulders and ribs hurt quite a bit though >_< Still, always had a thing with wings and they're lovely. Plus I've had the idea of a phoenix in mind, but once again no idea where it would go.
So that's my varying thoughts on it^^ I know there's many Christians that still don't think it's a good idea, of course because of OT scripture. There are websites though that I found by searching "Christian tattoos" on Google, and mostly refer to it as old law and such. Plus, marking yourself with Him is something else too^^ Tattoos for many, hold SO much meaning and symbolism sometimes....
I picked "love meself some tattoos" in that I LOVE some of the art on alot I've seen... very beautiful works of art^^ ...unless that choice was meaning that I have some myself, which I don't yet.

Unless someone from Miami Ink wants to drive to my house and tattoo me, I will never get a tattoo. And even if they do, they will have to coerce me with chocolate. These are my conditions.
And, on an administrative note, everyone please remember Theological debate=very no. Let's please keep this from being a WWF match with people hitting other people over the head with steel plated Bibles instead of chairs.

I think it comes down to 2 things. #1 is it somthing you want forever. Will it mean the same to you 40 years from now? And 2...does it really bother your family or wife/girlfriend. Because even though its silly to think less of someone for somthing like this....for some people, it is a serious thing. For the record, I plan on getting my future wifes name tattooed on my wrist in the form of a bracelet.

Pretty much my take on tattoos right thar. I think getting yourself inked up with something that you might not want 10, 20 years from now is silly.
I wouldn't mind a tattoo myself if I weren't absolutely terrified of needles. >>;

Im sorry to be the one to do this, but I think tattoos are bad. Its not the symbol its just that the Bible says not to defile your body. So I believe what it says. If you think they are good, then thats your opinion. But I don't think you should get them though. Not that they would keep you from heaven, but that the Lord asks us not defile our bodys with marks and other things, thats all. But please remember this is my opinion on them, not a fact. So don't go attacking me about this, okay?

I really like tattoos. I'm currently looking for one that means something to me so that I will still think fondly of it 40 years from now.

The same book of the Bible they are mentioned it, also discusses not cutting your beard a certain way and not wearing clothing of mixed material. (I used to be very anti-tattoo, so thats why I know what your saying) If you are refrencing the New Testament where our bodies are called the Temple, it can be argued either way that decorating the temple is good/bad.

I don't care about the "theological" aspect or if it'll be worth it down the road.
I just think they look absolutely disgusting.

I don't know about the beard, but I believe the mixed material was so people didn't rip each other off. By mixing certain material (I think it mentions two specific types), you'd end up with a real shody product. Basically you'd be selling people a defective item with full knowledge it was going to break on them.
Don't quote me on that, but I once read it somewhere so I thought I might as well spread the knowledge. Some portions of the Bible kinda apply solely to that time period. ^^;
But either way, I'm not into tattoos. A small one does interest me, but...eh. I just couldn't do without feeling guilty. Then again I also don't wear earrings anymore either. ^^;

It all depends on what you decorate yourself with. A photo is a photo, but there is a noticeable difference between a beautiful coastline and a pornography poster on your right wall. Personally, I don't think tatoos are bad, some are even tasteful or cool. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything I'd want branded on my skin indefinitely, so I'll say "No" for now.

Hell, things from one year ago frighten me. (*rummaging through inbox*)
So, no tattoos.

the reason why i think i would choose the tattoo i want now, is because every time i look at it, something new speaks to me.
and also, tis a very good tool to use for evangelism. XP

Personaly I like them however once you get one moste people end up with more befor they decide they are thru. I personaly have one of a celtic Trinity knot on my chest and I plan on getting a celtic style cross (as seen in the attachment below) when my buget permits and I also want to get a set of hawk wings coming off my shoulders with Immortal Worrior in gaelic at the base of the wings. As for the biblical aspect of getting one I think like with most things you have to take into context such as early christians did have tattoos because quite a few of them were former slaves and that was somthing in roman times that Gladiators and slaves had. Now in the old testament the verse that warns agenst getting tattoos was more in refrence to the practice of pagen practices of getting tattooed to show that you were a part of said group and since you were sapoze to be set apart from the rest of the world it was forbidden. but any way now that I have gotten that out of my system and yes I know that theologicly and what not its my own opionen so do with it what you want and i probably wouldent listen to reason any way XP. But my "rules" for getting one myself are do I really want it and could see me still wanting it down the road, would i be ashaimed to show my mother, and have i wanted it for at least a year. Beond that befor you get one check the shop out and make sure its clean and that you like the artists work since you are getting a peice of artwork put on you even if its your own the person who does the ink matters.

I have three tattoos, and I don't regret a single one. In fact, I wish I had more. I love them.

But just think for a moment, what will these tattoos look like when you get really old and you have rinkles. And your grandchildren ask "what are those things grandpa?"
And also Im not really refering to the OT, but the NT where it talk about your body is a temple like ShatterheartArk said. Not saying that the images are bad, but when you get a tattoo its sorta like putting graffiti all over your temple.

XD One of my cousins has the MxPx guy tattooed on his shoulder (or his inner upper arm...can't remember). We always used to joke about how, when he got old and his arms got flabby, he could make the guy look like he was running. XDD And that's why you should only get a tattoo that you KNOW you want for the rest of your life. XD

Yet again I see someone take this verse out of context.
Read the verse. It's referring to sexual sins, not drinking, smoking, tattoos, piercings, or ANY of that stuff.
[quote]18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own]

I was waiting for someone to say this. To quote standup comic Joe Rogan.
"People always ask, but what about when you get old and they sag? Guess what, when you get old and saggy you're ugly anyway. Nobody is gonna like looking at you. Why is colored saggy skin worse than plain saggy skin. Nobody gives a *censored* when you get old"

Well your body is a temple of God as said in the Bible, and tattoos imo look awful.
Therefore I am not getting any.

Or maybe a mural, perhaps?
I'm pro tattoos. XP I won't be getting one for a few years,(seeing as I'm only 15) but I definitely plan to get some in the nearish future.

I've seen LOTS of ugly tattoos in my day :/ Alot of people in this town, well it looks like they did them their selves, since half the time I don't even know WHAT the heck a couple of scratched out lines are supposed to be :/
Heh, my step sister was telling me how her husband in his much earlier years, got a Fred Flinstone on his back... She's... not too happy with that one and I think he probably regrets it too^^ I'd assume he might've been drunk at the time, but you're sort of not allowed to drink before getting tattooed because of what it does to your blood...

I'm going to have to go with the Bible on this one: tattoos are a no. That--and the fact that I'm absolutely terrified by needles like millions of others out there--is enough to make me stay away.
Now, having pierced ears? That's a different matter entirely. Just don't overdo it...I really wanted to get a second piercing on my ears (right next to the typical earlobe spot) for a while but my mom said no, even though we had heard that excessive body piercing and tattoos are sinful.

So theological debates are prohibited.. hmm. Can I just ask where in the Bible you find that tattoos are wrong? You can PM, if need be.

Tenshi no Ai wrote:I'd assume he might've been drunk at the time, but you're sort of not allowed to drink before getting tattooed because of what it does to your blood...
It's not that you're not allowed, it's just that if you do drink before getting a tattoo, it thins the blood, so you bleed a lot more. I wasn't drunk, but I had been drinking before I got my first tattoo, and it doesn't look the best because of that fact.
Also, to all those people who are scared of tattoos because it hurts, trust me, it doesn't hurt THAT bad. It all depends on where you get it...the closer to the bone it is, the more it'll hurt. If you get one on your upper arm (like my first one), it really doesn't hurt...it's more of an annoying "Quit it" pain than a "HOLY CRAP IT HURTS!" pain. The dragon on my right shoulder blade actually did hurt a bit, because it got close to the bone. But still, it was worth it.
So anyway, just letting you know the whole pain thing, really isn't as bad as you think, so if that's the only thing keeping you from getting a tattoo, don't let it.

Well yeah, what I meant^^ Moreso like, most places won't LET you get it done...
About the whole pain/close to bone thing, well, I am rather skinny, so practically anywhere I'd get done would be close to the bone >_< Either way, I heard the pain is similar the the effect of a cat scratch, which I've had many in my day. Still, I have a long ways to go before choosing the PERFECT design and EXACTLY where it should go before I even consider it... And I know I'll be shaking like a leaf anyways^^ Actually, I heard that after a while, you get used to the feeling and sometimes don't even realize that needles are prodding you.
Another thing that's VERY true is "tattoo addiction". A friend got one tattoo and now he's hooked and has two and wants more. My boyfriend, who's always wanted them, talked to him about it and got 1, then 2, and now turned that second one into a forearm sleeve. Looks like a very nice piece of art though^^ At first, I was a little iffy on it, but I don't mind now. It sure does look like a lot of work though, proper care, leaving it out of the sun to prevent fading, constantly supplying moisturizer on top...
AsianBlossom wrote: even though we had heard that excessive body piercing and tattoos are sinful.
This I don't completely understand... Did you hear it from a person, in other words? And even if it was a person how do YOU personally feel about it? No need for an answer, but I just think it's something to examine things for oneself, and how they could possibly carry a sinful nature. ...I'll end it there, but yeah^^

If I was going to get a tattoo, it would definitely be something related to my faith in Christ. I really can't see myself ever liking any particular design enough to want it permanently on my body, though.
My youth pastor has a tattoo on his back. It's his name, his wife's name, and his son's name in Hebrew. (His second son hadn't been born when he had it done, so he's planning to do one for him too.) He said it quote "hurt like a mug" and he maintained a deathgrip on his brother's hand the whole time.

haha yah I understand I when i got mine the worst part of it was the nervousness that i had before I got it not the actual getting it and i am a total chicken when it comes to needles but for some reason i will trust a tattoo artist with a tattoo gun but not a nurse or other medical profesonal.
