iPhone Launches Tomorrow

Okay, so tomorrow is i-Day; the new Apple iPhone launches at 6:00PM your local time. Already I've heard about people camped outside stores waiting for the official launch. I've also heard reports that police officers are going to be stationed in some stores and only small groups of people are going to be allowed in the store at a time!
Anyone out there getting one?

Wow! o.o
....Okami can't afford an iPhone, and honestly has no interest for something that is 8gb and $700+ ESPECIALLY when her iPod is 30gb and cost $250....

Hmm it looks good, but is it really worth it. I mean I don't know much about gb's, but if a iPod has more and is less than an iPhone than whats the point. Yeah sure you can do many things with it, but will it really be worth it? (Thats my question.) Are you sure they are more than $700?! Thats quite a bit of money for such a little gaget! Thats even more than a PS3!

A few other things to keep in mind with the iPhone--
1. NO discounts! Existing customers that are eligable for upgrades can kiss the discount aspect goodbye!
2. You MUST pay $20 extra for for a plan option that includes unlimited data and Visual Voicemail. If you're an existing customer, you can just add an attachable option, but for new customers, the plans are $20 more, so you wind up breaking even.
3. If you decide to return the iPhone and you broke the shrink wrap, don't expect to get back the full ammount you paid for it--10% is kept as a Restock Fee.

Heh... Apple's almost never offered discounts. A Mac news website I view regularly was hailing the day the author actually found a discount bin at his local mac store. That's... just to give you a hint. Anyway... I'm sure it will revolutionize everything, but I suspect the biggest deal is not the phone itself but the impact the phone will have on the industry and the direction everything is going in. This is like the first real PAD from the old Sci Fi stuff. You know, the digital device that takes care of
everything? Phone companies are already scrambling to cough out cheap knockoffs (sprint's coping methods are particularly
funny) just to keep up. Not many people can afford an iPhone, but I'm not entirely sure that's even the point. It's been made, and it's been made commercially viable. Now it's time for other people to pick up and make it cheaper.
Clearly, I won't be able to buy one. lol

Agreed--part of the iPhones appeal is the fact that it's the first all-touch PDA out there. It does echo the Star Trek PADS that we've seen on TNG, DS9, and VGR.
The question is--how many people will pay out the wazoo just to say they have no buttons on their phone or their Mp3 player?

Interesting that you mention that, Roy-boy-- Business account holders can't purchase the iPhone. If they want it, they have to set up a separate, individual account.

I feel that the price is a bit too high. Now its worth mentioning that I am not the biggest Apple fan and not a regular mobile phone user. However, 700 bucks for a 8gb, touchscreen phone is in my opinion far too expensive. Though it has a cool and modern look, the storage capacity and some semi annoying features I personaly have problems seeing that it will be a big sucess. However I could of course be wrong, still as I said I think the price is a bit high at best.

I'd love one, but I just can't justify $700 for 8GB.
Especially when I don't even have a PS3 yet.

I want one really really bad, but I don't have money, transportation, and it'll be sold out before I even get one. I have to wait until it is common so the price will lower and the lines won't be ridiculously long anymore.

I wouldn't bet on that happening. They'll just do like they do with the iPod and keep releasing new versions so the price stays high.

When I was watching the news today, they said there will be a new version of the iphone by the end of the year.

Heh, so what's the point of even getting one now? Tsk tsk companies and their newer versions soon after, that are always bigger, better, and in most cases, cheaper. Always makes the quick purchasers very angry (can be seen often in the video game world, oy... then again, technology overall, really :/ Especially phones.)

Hehehe..... something tells me that Apple didn't include some of us CAA members as their target consumers. Seriously, who's gonna buy this? Rich celebrities?

I think it will only be released here in 2008.
Not that I have money for it, or need it.

Yep, there is no way that Id buy this thing. And the one reason is because of all the costs your going to have to pay. Yeah at $600-700, but thats not all. You guys have mentioned those other little prices, but the thing of it is there are many hidden fees that people don't see when buying for this types of things. Theres the phone bill, internet bill, and other miscellaneous bills that you will have to pay for. Thats a little too rich for my blood, don't you think?

Okay guys, today is iDay--the phone has been fully launched in all time zones, and already in the call center I work in, we have over 100 calls in queue with activation problems!
I got the chance to spend about 2 minutes with the thing during my lunch break and I have to say, while the phone IS really handsome, and the features are nice--it's NOT worth the initial launch price.

While I probably *could* afford it - I just don't see the need. Perhaps after I've been stuck in an airport for days and days I'll wish I had it, but I'm not convinced just yet.
And I kinda feel like Azi here, too. Until I have a PS3, I'll be happy to wait.

I'm an Apple fan. But I have my phone on my computer and my lappy is already portable enough. That phone actually costs more then my computer. XD
And I don't like cell phones. So no interest.

Update: if you're getting the iPhone, you might wanna wait a while before activating it...we've had over 5000 calls this weekend (or possibly today!) about slow activations--some customer's have been waiting over 48hrs for activation!

Seems like a big waaaaaaaaaaaaste of money to me (then again I paid over $100 in fireworks yesterday haha). Plus with all the fees and unable to add memory easily (I heard you have to do it manually).
my newspaper interviewed this one guy who was the first in the area to get it. He was there since the day before and when asked about it he said basically "I don't care about the price tag./ When I want it, I get it. I will do with the consquences later. This phone is talking of the town and it seems ok to me. My phone right now can do more and is better then the iphone but lots of people will look at you better with this type of phone. I am getting soley because it's cool. I may not even use it."
When asked after purchasing it he said "It might of been worth it." There's a picture of him looking at the box with a dissapointed look haha.
Anyways, I have a phone and a mp3 player. I am quite alright.

OFF TOPIC-@ Hitokiri- Wow you payed over $100 for fireworks! Man wouldn't I like to be able to throw that much money at something that will only last a night. But still we did buy fireworks again this year. I wanted to get the $30 pack, but we couldn't afford it at the moment. So we ended up getting $17 pack and a big firework for $4.
ON TOPIC- That sounds pretty stupid of that guy to just by it because its cool and that theres a chance his friends may look down on him if he doesn't buy it. That disgusts me. Hes going to have pay alot of money now for that iPhone because of all those extra costs. Buying something on the spur of the moment isn't good, but what do I know. Me and my sister went and bought those fireworks and ice cream just because we felt like it. And it was also after 8.

Actually is was $220 between my friend and I. We got some heavy duty fieworks though. As well, it was alot of by one get one free and on top of it, they threw in about a $40 value of free fireworks.
Anyways, I thought it looked intresting when I saw it advertised but it will be outdone in the next couple months.

Yeah Sprint is already trying to get attention. Have you seen their commercials lately? They talk about a phone that has music, pictures, and maps. Sounds somewhat like what Apple is doing. But they didn't say anything about the internet. Nice try sprint.
OFF TOPIC-Man, I would like to get that many fireworks. Well I hope you have fun with them. Where do you set yours off anyway? We set ours off in our side yard. Its fun to light them and run like heck to get away!
