Evolution of Apple

I thought about putting this in Computing, but since it doesn't have much to do with actual computer problems or anything, I stuck it in General instead. XD Hope that's ok.

Anyways, my brother sent me this picture earlier today, and I thought some of you might get a kick out of it. XD It's basically everything that Apple's done since 1976, starting with the Apple I and ending with the iPhone. It's really neat to see how the designs and everything change over time. XD

This is the coolest XD I've used those 1998 iMacs... Made a stack, heh. Used the 1990 Classic... And by the looks of it, some of those 1980 Macs... Sheesh... some budget my school had.

XD Yeah, I remember seeing some of the older Macs at my school, too. I can't remember what model they were, though. I do know that I've used the '98 G3 Powerbook, even though it was kind of worthless when I got around to using it. XD

I actually have a big blue '99 Powermac G3 sitting in my room unused, 'cause it recently died (the monitor did, anyways; the computer still functions, but only runs on 6GB of hard drive space. XD). I'm also using a G4 monitor at the moment, with my little Mini. XD

Anyways, I just love how the first one was like...a wooden box. XD That cracks me up.

Sure have come a long way, haven't they?^^ I remember back in Kindergarden using their Macintosh and some paint program that spoke what you typed. That was so cool back then^^ I also remember when the iMacs came out. As a tube screen, I loved their colourful designs^^

Yeah man, I still use a Hockey Puck! XD You can see it right under the massive monitor, lovingly dubbed "Hugely Blue" in this picture. XD

I'm sure you didn't mean anything by this, but it reminded me that I should say this is not going to turn into a "Mac vs. PC" thread. XD That's always a point of contention on any board, and this thread wasn't made for that purpose. XD So yes. Carry on!

The Hockey Puck is still cool

I haven't heard the term 'hockey puck' for the mouse before...

I have heard it called a 'Hamburger Mouse' before though (well, it's actually half a hamburger...).
(I prefer my Microsoft mouse, thankyouverymuch.)

At my primary school we had the Classic, LC475s, LC575s; then at high school we had the 1998, 2001 and 2002 iMacs; then at uni we have 2003 eMac and 2006 iMac Intels.

Tryin' to figure out which of those I worked on at my Middle School. The entire St. Louis Lutheran School system was way hook't to the macs! Hehe. My first positive entry in to the world of macs was this year's Macbook, though. I picked up a Mighty Mouse for it too... And the Hockeypucks were a pain in the butt.

Anyone else remember the ad that Apple had going a few years back where they ribbed fun at Microsoft?
Basically it showed a presenter trying to show off one of Microsoft's latest products at a meeting and everything goes wrong,finally someone in the back yells:

It didn't. Your tower look might have, but the OS X enviroment evolved from BSD unix. In fact, I can make 30-45 seconds worth of changes to my machine, and it will only boot to BSD unix - no GUI.

I learned to type on an Apple IIe.

I'm pretty sure those are the machines that I played Oregon Trail on, also (from one of the original *floppy* disks).

About a third of the computer lab had what were simply referred to as "Macintoshes." I'm pretty sure that they were the IIfx ones.

My elementary school didn't put the priority on computers when it came time to go over the budget. They got their computers by donation from the nearby prison, after upgrades apparently.

Speaking of memories, the only Apple I've ever used was the Apple II in nearly mint condition that my grandparents owned. They sold it for $2,000 to a collector. Now I wish they had kept it.

I played my first video game on it. PAINT! XD
