Fitness and Health question

Postby Destroyer2000 » Mon Jun 18, 2007 8:13 pm

Alright, I'm unsure about a few things, so I've got a few questions. I've worked out regularly for maybe...2 years, now? And with me starting tennis like I have, I"ve really gotten in shape. The thing is, I need to fill out a bit. Put on a few more pounds, and I could use a few inches of height, haha. But in any case, what would be the best way to go about this? I lift weights and such every day, but I don't want to get really bulky. Just a nice, comfortable build.
I eat pretty much what the food pyramid says to everyday. I don't want to have to have a really strict diet, so I'm trying to avoid that, but my metabolism is so high, I can't gain weight through body fat, not that it is a bad thing. I will probably put on weight through muscle.
About the height...I'm not likely to grow much more. I'm 17, but I haven't hit that major growth spurt that you are supposed to hit during your teenage years, yet. I know men continue to grow until they are around 21-25, but not much height wise after a certain point. I'll just drink milk, I'm thinking, for whatever else I might gain.
Basically, I just want to get in better shape, increase my endurance and strength, and such. I just don't know enough about the dieting and exactly what to do, so yeah. If there are any fitness gurus here, that would be helpful.

Add more protein to your diet, but not too much.

And what happens if you eat too much protein? I know you are supposed to have 1-3 servings of meats (protein) per day, but I usually get 5-6 or so. I also drink protein shakes.

If you eat too much protein, your body will actually start giving up its storage of other viatmins and nutrients to balance out the excess amount of protein. I've read that if you eat too much protein, your body will start getting rid of calcium.

Ah. I'll be careful of that, then. I know if I eat too many carbs and such, I will get bulky. And while I want to built more muscle, I don't want it to be a mass; there needs to be definition to it.

Your height and weight are also going to be determined not only by your metabolism but also by your ancestry as well.Genetics is going to be as much a part of how big you grow as anything else. You should keep that in mind.
As far as it goes there is not much you can do about your height except maybe some good stretching exercises.
To put it in perspective I myself never weighed more than 130 pounds throughout
high school and never reached the 150 pound mark until I got into Bible School.
It was all that apple butter that I ate that did the trick,as far as I am concerned.
btw:Don't get overly impatient either, some people don't start sprouting until they're
until their late teens or early twenties.

Thanks. No, I don't expect to grow much higher; I'm 5'7 now, and taller than both my mother and father. My family has a lot of Irish/Scottish ancestry, so my chances of getting much more height aren't good. I would like to hit 6', if possible, but I doubt it. As for weight, I weight 120ish now. For my height and such, that is a good weight.
