OK, I'm not sure what board this should go in, so I'll just put it here to be safe. A friend of mine and I are both pretty big players of D&D, and for some reason, every single time we write up character sheets, the characters are polar opposites in some way. I play an elf/half-elf, he plays a dwarf. I play Chaotic Good alignment, he's Lawful Evil. We never plan anything like that ahead of time, or anything, it just happens! Now check this. Recently I found out that I was born in the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese Zodiac, and he was born in the Year of the Dragon. Now according to the Chinese zodiac, the tiger and the dragon are mortal enemies, consantly battling each other! Does anyone else find this somewhat creepy, or am I just being superstitious?

You're probably reading too much into it. I will say it is interesting that opposing sides crop up between you and your friend as far as the games go and such, but I wouldn't try to put too much meaning behind it.

Possibly, it just strikes me as odd that it doesn't just happen occasionally, or even frequently, it is constantly! Granted, he often picks races that don't nessicarily get along well with others races, but still! Here are all of the different examples I can remember. I tend to favor playing elves or half-elves as a race, so most of my characters are along that line with race. He doesn't favor a particular race, but I can recall him playing a dwarf a couple times, a Drow once (I was a Drow as well, problem is, Drow hate other Drow more than anything), a Tiefling, a gnoll, and a Thrii-Kreen (psionic race). When our races don't oppose, though, either our alignments do, or our classes do! I play a Paladin, he plays a rouge. I play chaotic good, he does Lawful Evil. It's gotten to the point that its more than a coincidence, but I don't know what the hell it is, though.

I have a friend who keeps saying his life revolves around the number 4.

His friend died at 4AM on June 4th, He was born at 4:00, he has 4 other brothers. He has 4 letters in his name (In both english and spanish), etc etc etc.

I'd say it's just coincidence XD

Wow, a number 4 enigma. Probably a good idea to keep him away from The Number 23. ^^;

But either way, I have to agree with everyone else. Although I believe there's a reason for everything happening, just because there's a reason, it doesn't mean it has to be like...life changing. ^^;

On the one hand I don't believe in coicidence but on the other hand I do argee that you are putting too much into this.

Here is the thing: human minds tend to focus on the events that stand out, to the exclusion of those that are mundane. That is why more people are afraid of flying than of driving, despite the fact that the latter is far more dangerous: plane crashes attract a great deal of attention whereas we tend to ignore driving accidents.

Consequently, I'd give you a good bet that this is a similar case. Consider the opposite question: what are the chances that the two of you would create characters that aren't opposed in some way? Considering classes, races, and alignments, you have a quite a few chances (especially if your friend picks belligerent races). While this seems like an amusing coincidence, it probably says more about you as people and the type of characters you like than anything else.

As for any Zodiac, I have yet to be impressed. Sure, my signs kind of sound like they apply to me, but so do practically all of them.

Interesting, but I agree w/ everyone else, you're looking too much into it. My friend and I are kinda like that though, more with aggreance though. We complete each other's sentences, even when it's not something that should be the same, kinda. For example, one day I said "ow" kind of randomly, and I was plannign on following it with "my butt hurts", but before I coudl speak, my friend said just that. That one wasn't as coincidental though, bvecause we were both in the same situation of having ot sit in uncomfortable chairs for nearly 6 hours a day, but there've been oterh uncanny things like that too. They're really interesting to think about though.

After September 11, my biological clock did something most odd... I would get the urges in the middle of the day/night to look at the clock, and upon doing so it would always be at exactly 9:11 AM/PM O_o... it's really amazing how accrute our bodies can time things when we ourselves couldn't conciously do it, (for instance after waking up dead at 7:00 every morning for school, when I shut the alarm off I will often wake up exactly at 7:00... and then as time goes on I'll loose this effect.)

I'm obsessed with the number 6 ever since the first time I read revelations... In English numerology, 6 would be the letters F (6th letter), O (15th letter), and X (24th) letter... I remember when the new Mexican president was elected, Fox... Then there's Newscorp AKA Fox... I had a hard time watching Train 999 because of that, I worried a bit about 1999, because 999 is 666 upside down... I use to dread (as a child in elementary and Jr high school) math that ended in sixes... Now I dread them when they end in radicals... They just look incomplete to me.

After 9/11, I saw 9:11 a lot... When I didn't have a set schedule, I would often wake up at 9:11... I'd often come home from friend's houses, and end up in my room at exactly 9:11 by my room clock. Whenever anyone asked for the time around 9, it would be 9:11. (around 4 would always be 4:20, but that's entirely different) For a good couple of years, the most important events in my life took place at 9:11... Well, phone conversations and discoveries on the net, mostly. That hasn't happened in a while, but the memory of all those things is pretty strong.

Then there was the period that I'd see numbers in groups of 3... 2:22... 777. 111... It'd just happen a lot...

As for your friend, ever think your friend may just know what you'll chose, and choses something to be in opposition to you? It's called being antagonistic, and I have a friend that did similar things... Nothing mystical about it, just your friend picking something to tick you off or be in direct opposition to you.
