Shoes On or Shoes Off?

This is a continuation of the "Shoes on, Shoes Off" debate in the "Anime" thread. I thought it was such an interesting conversation, I would give it it's own thread.

So, which do you prefer: Shoes on in the house or shoes off?

It basically depends on the situation. Generally speaking, I take my shoes off once I get home, though I do wait until I'm back in my room. Sometimes I'll have them on because I'm getting ready to go somewhere, other times I'll have them on just because I feel like it. XD In winter, I sometimes prefer to keep my shoes on just because it makes my feet warmer. xD So really, it just kind of depends on my mood. Mostly off, though.

Always off, my friend.

Except sometimes when I'm lazy and I need to quickly get something.

I prefer my shoes on most of the time.

Doesn't it make your carpet or floor dirty? I mean what if you stepped on dog poop or a lot of mud outside, then it tracked on the carpet?

Shoes on. It's winter here and I don't want my feet to freeze off.

I used to be a shoes-on person, but after I lived with some people who required that you take your shoes off in their house, it became a habit to take my shoes off as soon as I get home. I sometimes still feel yucky walking around barefoot, though. I need to at least have socks. XD

Socks FOR THE WIN.

Generally shoes on, except in the evening after I take a shower.

I'd be interested to see what the gender breakdown on this poll's results is. Seems like all the girls I know, including the ones who never wear heels or anything anyway, prefer to go barefoot whenever possible.

Edit: Actually, since this is technically a shoes-versus-socks poll, it's sort of a different issue than I was thinking of.

Not really... I'm barefoot now. I always walk around the house barefoot.

Hey...the continuation of the conversation on my thread, cool...

Yeah me too....its just natural for me to take them off right when i get into a house....unless, like you said, i'm lazy and just need to run upstairs and grab something....that happens a lot...i forget things a lot...

::Smacks forehead:: Darn it! I should've turned the "View Poll Results" feature on!

LOL I refuse to vote until the following options are added:

"Bah, who needs shoes and socks? I go barefoot!"
"Why wear socks when you have cute bedroom slippers? XD"
"Either or. It depends on my mood and the temperature."

Do consider that we barely use carpets in South-east Asia.

I never where shoes in the house. Off, off, off!! I don't even like wearing socks in the house. Fuzzy slippers are cool though... but mine ran away. o.o;;

Good question. I never knew so many people kept their shoes on at home.

I usually keep my shoes on for convenience during the school year, but tend to go around in socks or barefoot during summer or winter break.

90% of the time I am barefoot. I wear sandals from like Spring till Fall so most the time I slide em off if I go inside.

Japanese culture had affected me far too much.

I almost always take my shoes off on the door step unless I have to rush and I don't have the time. But even then it almost feels wrong to ever walk on any carpet with my shoes now.

If I have to do something that requires me to go outside or just anything that I need shoes for then I usually keep them on the rest of the day untill bedtime. I guess I just don't think to take them off since they're so comfortable to wear ^^; I never really noticed that I have my shoes on so much untill now o.o.. my poor feet!

Shoes on in my own home, shoes off in other people's homes... It's pretty simple.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:Doesn't it make your carpet or floor dirty? I mean what if you stepped on dog poop or a lot of mud outside, then it tracked on the carpet?

That's what welcome mats are for... If I walk somewhere muddy, i wash my shoes off before I come in, and if it's really muddy, i leave them outside... HOnestly, this isn't a problem. I never get my carpets dirty... Besides, this line of logic only works if you keep your shoes on all the time outside and take them off when you go inside... If you go barefoot on Asphalt, you'll track black mess in with you when you go inside if you stay barefoot... My shoes, on the otherhand, don't track the black inside from Asphalt...

I take my shoes off at other people's houses, though, if they do the same... It's a matter of respect.

Explain THAT logic, Mr. Spock. Why do you take your shoes off in other people's houses, but not in your own?

It's a house rule that you take your shoes off at the door. Plus, after being cooped in them for 8 hours at school, my feet need air. I'd rather wander about barefoot...since if I wear socks one of my dogs enjoys coming up and pulling them off'a my feet and then playing with them o_O;;;

I take my shoes off when other people have an issue with it. I don't have an issue with it in my own house. That's why. It's respect for their wishes.

I am detecting some undue hostility emanating from the anti-shoes faction.

XDDD This thread is cracking me up.

Ok I remember when I first came to the U.S., I was HORRIFIED when my American roommate sat on her bed with her shoes on. And since she took the top bunk (double decker), I had the :eh: expression everytime her feet/shoes swung from the top. You know how you sit at the edge and mindlessly swing your feet a bit. Ah those were the good old culture shock days.

Come to think of it, a few years later in the States, I developed a habit of wearing socks with bedroom slippers. I almost never wore socks alone.

Now that I'm in Asia, I go barefoot or bedroom slippers alone.

Well, Bob, you're most welcome to my home, knowing you'll take your shoes off and you can be sure I'll be looking at you for assurance before stepping into yours.

Mave: Are you sure?
Bob: Sure, step in.
Mave: ........Really?
Bob: Yes, it's perfectly fine to step in with shoes. Really!
Mave: ...........But
Bob: That's it. I'm closing the door.

*Mave rubs her shoes on the welcome mat A LOT, apologizes for messing up the floor with her shoes and rushes in*

For me, it's shoes on in the house only when I'm about to go outside. Any other time, it's bare feet all around the house. I rarely wear socks indoors.

Alwayyys~ off! I'm just not comfortable in my house with shoes on. It's just not relaxing having something holding on to your feet then! XD But socks...thats a different story.

Always off in the house, but not because I'm worried about dirt. I just prefer it. It's more comfortable.

Once I enter through the door, I take my shoes off and put them on the shoe rack. Barefoot FTW.
