May 15th is a protest day against high gas prices.

The simple economics of it say that not buying gas on any given day will not lower the price at all. Instead, drive less, carpool, and buy more fuel efficient cars if you want to spend less money on gas. That is the only solution.

Why won't a "gas-out" work? Because it doesn't change the demand for gas. If you buy gas on May 14 or 16, they still get the money. They don't care what day you buy it. They count profits in terms of months, not days. And most people will not drastically change their consumption of oil without changing their lifestyles. So buy gas on May 15 if you are running on empty. It doesn't matter.

After some thought, I decided to lock this thread. Basically, I can't see this discussion going anywhere productive. It will either be "I won't buy gas" followed by "Me too" or more likely devolve into the obvious political issues related to the entire matter. But the thread will remain here for those whom this may be of interest.
