Seriously, me and my friends had a serious debate about this.

Who would defeat who in a fight, your average Ninja or your average Samurai from their time of prime?

This has nothing to do with anime and it isn't meant as a joke.

shouldn't we have a poll for this? Anyway it all depends on the circumstances, if a ninja and a samurai faced each other in the middle of the day on a perfectly flat area with nowhere to run, the samurai would have an advantage. But if it was night in a dense forest and the ninja and the samurai didn't know where the other was (but knew that there was, indeed, another) the ninja would have an advantage over the samurai. It also depends on how they are armed. If the samurai had a bow and arrows as well as the traditional katana, he would have a better chance of beating the ninja then if he only had the sword. On the other hand if the ninja had throwing stars that would tip the balance again. And what if the samurai was riding a horse? Or the ninja had a blowgun? Or, or, or, or anything really. There are many scenarios where a samurai would win, and equally many where a ninja would win.

Wasn't there a thread already about this?

In a fight? No-holds barred? Dude, the samurai.

Although Ninjas could be skillful in stealth and assassinations, this does not necessarily mean they were gifted in combat. A ninja could slit a samurai's throat, poison his drink, sure, sure, but in a confrontation the samurai would usually have the superior training and swordsmanship. Ninjas have been heavily romanticized in film and anime/manga, when in reality it wasn't all that amazing of a position. You die, there are untold others to just take your place.

Here's how I think of it

Assassin/Hitman vs Warrior

I say Ninja.

Of course it'd be Ninja form of the Spartans of their Quadran called Omega,I mean they absoulotly Pwn.

Assassins use non-confrontational methods, however. To me, the premise suggests a full on battle to the death.

Pirates, because all the Ninja arts, stealth, skill, and training in the world isn't bulletproof. And I mean that in the most literal sense I can.

And pirates are just more awesome in general.

When it comes to an actual battle, pirates would win, Indiana Jones-style (just shoot the guy holding the sword!). But when it comes to webcomics...I daresay ninjas have the upper-hand.

Just curious:

1. Do Samurais on average have longer swords?
2. Who has more weapons?
3. Who has a greater variety of weapons?
4. Who can jump higher?
5. Who can run faster?
6. Who has better endurance?
7. Who is more agile?
8. Do samurais have shields, or is it two hands holding one sword?
9. Do ninjas know dual-wield techniques?

I'd say it depends on the envirenment of the battle feild. If they fight on flat lands I'd say the Samurai, but if they were fighting in a forrest the ninja has a higher possibility of winning...

Well Ninjas beat Pirates in that webcomic. And if Ninjas can beat Pirates, and Pirates can beat Samurais, then Ninjas can beat Samurais.

Yeah obviously MSP. Because Ninjas can deflect cannonballs with chi.

Ninjas actually started out as lowly farmers with mostly improvised weapons.

Advantage Samurai

If the Samurai wore a lot of armor that could theoretically slow them down a bit?

As cool as Ninjas are/were, most of their skills were mythical and most (not all) weapons were home made from conventional farming tools. Ninja swords would be the exception. We have hard proof (as far as propaganda from that time goes) that Samurai were quite skilled with a broad range of weapons made by specialized craftsman. That, and the Samurai practiced all day everyday. Many Ninja had to farm during the day, and hone their skills in the evenings.

So, If both came prepared, Samurai. If they met in plain clothes, Ninja.

Ash would win. Pirate. Ninja. He's the guy with the gun.

Yes somewhere in time I do remember something like this being asked before.
To answer the question the winner would be:CU CUCUHLAIN!
I mean anyone who could defeat an entire army by his lonesome self
would be able to beat up both the ninja and the samurai without a sweat.
