A little advice needed for a hopelessly clueless guy.

Postby Destroyer2000 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:07 pm

Haha. Anyway, this friday is my girlfriend and I one month anniversary. I want to get her this little gift, this dogtag with a picture of the two of us on the day I asked her out. It has a space to put a little message at the bottom, but I'm not sure what to say exactly. I don't like to use the word love, as we've been together only a month, and that is a strong word anyway. It's not good to use unless you are absolutely certain of it. So, any advice for this guy? I've been called a hopeless romantic, but yet, all of my romantic-type thinking leaves me in my time of need, haha.

Here's an idea, write "Stay Happy". It gives a ring that you're a selfless man; so if you two ever part, she'll still remember that all you want her is to be happy (With or without you).

O.o Eh... from a girl perspective, I'm not sure if "stay happy" really sounds quite right. Kinda sounds like you wanna dump her soon. How about somethin' sweet that can be both friendly and romantic? Like: "Always Thinking of You" or "Always Near My Heart" (see cause it's a necklace... get it? UGH. I dunno! I'm better at writing tyrannical speeches! Go look on the back of Hallmark card and steal whatever it says there! XP)

You kidding me? "Stay Happy" is legit. And frankly, when you're in a relationship, you want your companion to stay happy (Of course there are times which that is not the case, but generally speaking).

"Always near my heart" or "Always thinking of you" is extremely superficial and false. For one thing, it's a promise that you can't guarantee. You don't know if things will work out later down the road, and eventually that statement will be a lie. But even if a relationship does break, it's nice to wish your ex happiness down his or her future.

Thus, why "Stay Happy" wins. So if you two ever do break up, she'll always remember you as that sweet guy that wanted nothing but for her to be happy.

Edit: Alternatively, "Don't Stop Smiling", "Always Smile", or other similar things work as well.

Yeah, but stay happy does sound rather...final. As they said, almost like it was the last words of a relationship. And trust me, that's not the case.

Edit: "Always smiling" or "Don't Stop Smiling" Sounds good, as both of us were...for lack of a better word, giddy, in that picture. One of the few of me where I am smilng like a fool, haha.

xD Well I disagree. I think it's lovely. It only sounds "final" because all the sappy romance movies and tv shows and all the drama that gets forced into our heads.

But it's your call, dude.

Says the GUY.

Since when has a guy made you one of these?

How about something like:

Nothing is more True Than My Love for You.

Unless that feels too rushed, corny, or won't fit.

*Assumes it would fall under all three.*

Yeah, I agree, if you put "love" or "always" on there she will either: A) freak out that you're so serious so soon or B) become emotionally attached to you way too quickly.

I think something like "I love your smile" might be okay, though. Or maybe "I am so blessed by you"--something that shows your gratitude to her for being in this relationship.

A dogtag? What will those kids think of next?

It looks like a dogtag. It's more of a slab of metal with an engraved pciture on it, though.

I think "I love your smile" works. It's still romantic and yet, not begging for commitment. It's like a general encouragement and support for her happiness and self esteem.

I would not mind getting that. LOL

*falls through the roof*

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!

*confetti falls in*

You should write: "Somewhere in time, a miracle of friendship is given."

It isn't directly romantic, but it's very warming at the same time.

Alright, I got it made. I'll post the pictures of the front and back sides...
On the front is just a picture of me and her. On the back, it says,
"Patrick and Tori
E.S.T
03-27-07"

The E.S.T. is "Ever since time" so that no matter when she looks at it, she will still remember that day. Lord willing, we will still be together years from now.
Let me know what you think!

hmmm...it's a bit uber serious for only having been together for a month. What if you break off?You should seriously have waited a longer while before even thinking of going off and doing something like that.A year or 2 would have been better IMO.
If you really wanted to give her something to commerate your one month anniversary of being together you should have picked something nice but less
likely to cause problems in case you split up later on like flowers.

Uber-serious? I don't think so. It's not like it was insanely expensive or anything. It's just a locket.

"Thanks for the memories..."
"I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve held so long
(Erase all the pain till it’s gone)
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

I will never know myself until I do this on my own
And I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed
I will never be anything till I break away from me
I will break away, I'll find myself today

I would suggest putting the link to this thread on the bottom. That way she would see how much effort you put into thinking up the "perfect three words". She would be practically obligated to like it. Think of if your aunt Thelma got you a polka-dot tie, would you say "uggh, not another tie!"? No you would say "wow a tie, thanks alot aunt Thelma". If she likes it, you win, if not, you win. As a second option I would go with "You are not forgotten". It is a nice neutral saying that has a good ring to it.
