Exposing a fake...

Postby ICE-rocks » Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:58 pm

Hello people(friends or not so friends...) anyway

Didn't know where to put this so... I thought I would post it here.

Heres the story.

My best friends sister is hanging out (for about a year or two) this guy, but she and her whole family are clueless to see he's a fake (Even though its obvies just the way he says things).
He acts like hes all Godly in front of everyone yet, when he hangs out with his other friends he has a curses and just does the complete opposite.
And I just don't know what to do... I just feel as if I could just say something but they would just say I was lying. so what should I do?

(once again sorry if this isn't where to post this)

Sincerely: Ice-rocks :hits_self

So he's a hypocrite, huh? That's too bad. What is also sad is that you don't think they'll believe you. If this truly is a matter of concern to you, then tell them how you feel about the guy. Do it discretely. Don't make a big fuss, simply be honest about what you know. If they don't believe you, that's too bad, but when he does show his true colors (and he's bound to eventually) they'll remember your efforts. That's my opinion for what it's worth.

EDIT: That's a very good point, Mith. You could certainly try asking the guy about his behavior first.

Hmm... This is a tough situation. It's not our place to judge what is and is not a sin for another person. If you feel someone isn't acting in a maner consistent with their faith, the bible advises you to take it to that person directly, not to someone else (this is generally considered gossip). I'd recommend a great deal of prayer before jumping into the "he's not a Christian" conversation with others.

Just because he acts and speaks differently with her and her family then he does when he's with his friends doesn't necessarily mean he is being either a fake or
a hypocrite.People will act and speak differently depending on who they are with.
Perhaps he is more comfortable in being himself with his friends.
I wouldn't let it bug you that much unless what he is doing is really serious such as doing drugs or smoking dope or drinking hard liqour or sleeping around. Then it would be a concern. If you know he's doing things like that then it would be a real cause to worry.

Still, if I were your sister, I would want to know.

Mith has a point, that you should pray, and not be all judging, but it's not the whole thing, either. You need to try to protect your family when you can... without going all "get the shotgun, maw" on him. :)

Actually this is a case where people would need to know a bit more before we could reach any definitive conclusion. For example what is meant by 'cursing'?This could mean anything from simply saying a few 'hells' and 'damns' to impress his friends to really major stuff like saying the 'F' word every few sentences.
Though if you really are concerned you certainly ought to talk to your pastor, minister or priest about it.

One I would pray about it. Ask God to convict him. Two confront him in a Godly way and let him know that you think that his behavior is contrasting what he says he believes.

I'd try those things first. You might need to do more later if nothing changes but if he is following the Lord as closely as he says he is he'll be convicted and listen and change.

I am convinced that many men who preach the gospel and love the Lord are really misunderstood. People make a “profession,â€
and 'da--s' to impress his friends
In my opinion, censore it out a bit, so the rest of us who tihnk it's a curse don't have to read it =D

Hmmm... Have you thought of the scenario that maybe he was that way (cursing, etc.) before he met the girl? Maybe he acts 'godly' around her and her family because he wants to be good or better for them and for himself. I'm the same way, I'd much rather hang around my girlfriend and family because I know I have to behave and it forces me to keep myself in check. I know how I'm going to act and be when I'm with my friends, so I'd much rather try my best to be better when I'm going to be able to =P

Understand? Kinda?
