I myself, am a Vegetarain. I try for Vegan; but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I'm not horribly strict, for one.I feel bad if I go to someones house and there's meat. I don't just waste the food, I eat it. ^^ then at the end I plolitely remind then I'm a Vegge, and ususally the person feels awful >> and in turn...I do too.

I feel really pretentious calling myself a vegetarian after such a short time, so for propriety's sake we'll say that I have not eaten any meat in a little under a month and do not plan on resuming eating meat for a while.

I thought about that too, but I don't think any of the vegetarians here on CAA would guilt trip us for eating meat, so in turn, I don't guilt trip them about them not eating meat.

Also a couple of the vegetarians here don't do it for moral reasons, but for health reasons, so the killing of animals doesn't bother them. They just feel it's healthier to not eat meat. So that article wouldn't bug them anyway. XD

Assuming you could get away with posting anything here from Maddox's site in the first place.

While my sister is more or less vegeterian the ironic thing is that her husband's favorite hobby is moose hunting. He and his pal go out every year during the season to see if they can bag a moose.

I've read that Vegge's save about 95 animals a year. 95 X 6 = ?(2)

I don't know about them, but I alone have you covered there.

I don't think cows look smart, dumb, thoughtful or cute. I think they look delicious.

Yeah, I'm definitely not veg for animal rights reasons, although I'm not going to be ignorant and deny that there IS a lot of cruelty that goes on in factory farms and the like. I'm just not a PETA person, I'll guarantee you that. My friends are trying to get me to join since my newfound meatlessness.

Question: How come you're a vegetarian now? Was it because you're attempting to lose weight? Or for other reasons?

Trying something new to shock my metabolism so I can drop these last 30 pounds that have been plaguing me for months. I'm already starting to look thinner, so it's working. I HAVE VISIBLE COLLAR BONES NOW. I mean...through the skin. Not open and bloody. That'd be nasty.

I'm not a vegetarian, although a couple years ago I ate only raw fruit, veg, and nuts, so I was a vegetarian then as a side effect of eating only raw foods.

I eat meat, and sometimes even get hungry for burgers and suchlike, but most of the time when meat is served at a meal, after a few bites of it, it just starts tasting horrible to me.

I'm not sure why that would be, unless there are chemicals in it or something. Sometimes chemicals bother me. I hate the smell of perfumes, etc.

Last night I made fried meat sandwhiches, and later regretted it, because I felt yucky for several hours afterwards.

...Not that anyone cares about all of this, I'm sure. Just mentioning it for contrast. :)

If someone does it for health reasons thats cool. If they want to go on a hypocritical kick about not killing animals...blah.

Yeah. I think God gave us animals to eat. That is my view though. I do admire the discipline of vegetarianism though, especially on occasions where vegetarian is a low fat option.

Alice, have you noticed any difference in how you react to organic meat? I know that for a while at least, we had organic beef of some kind because that is what my mom could have because of chemicals.

That's a good question, and I'd like to find out someday. Right now I haven't really had access to it.

It is certainly true that some people are more sensitive to chemicals and hormones used in the modern food industry. Studies have yet to show that any of this is dangerous for the population at large, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t affect anyone, either. At any rate, it’s a good idea to pay attention to what your body is telling you.

From my experience, there are two main causes of cravings for certain foods:
First is your body is craving a certain type of nutrient that it is lacking. If you crave meat, your body is probably telling you that it needs something it knows it can find in the meat, such as protein, salt, or fat. Salt and fat are typically not something that Americans are deficient in, but if you don’t eat much meat, you could be lacking protein. I understand that with all of the focus on low sodium diets for those with high blood pressure that some folks have gone so far to avoid salt that they suffer from salt deficiency, but those cases are still quite rare. If you eat any processed food at all, this isn’t going to be a problem for you.

The second cause for cravings is you haven’t eaten something for a while that you usually eat a lot of and your body misses the pleasure of eating that substance. These cravings especially plague folks who change their diets. Their bodies will crave the foods they are used to. These cravings will go away in time.

The key, in my mind, is to make sure you have a good diet. Eat a good balance of the right kinds of foods. If you don’t eat meat, that’s fine, but make sure you are still getting the protein you need.

So why do pregnant women crave weird food combinations like pickle and onion and salted pork sandwiches?

PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 9:40 pm

It's hormonal. And it's not just the pregnant women either.

Ok,thanks.

Though, getting back on course here,it would seem to me that the best diet would
combine vegetables with selected meats and fishes, nuts and fruits.
Like any type of diet you can go overboard with a vegetarian diet.

Not eating meat is more egologial or eating it less. Cuz producing meat need lots of energy and crop. Worlds food problem could be partly solved if western countries would eat less meat. For example in USA 50% of crop is used to feed animals, not humans.. Well sory for preaching... :/
And it is more healthier and lighter diet!! Better fats.

I´m only semivegetarian (i eat fish) And i have to say this has been right solution for my healt. But i dont recomend it for people in growht..

If someone has good easy cheap recepies... :) (student alone)

I can barely be considered omnivorous, I eat so much meat. I know it's not that good to eat just meat, but I can't help it, I hate most fruits and vegitables (though the one's I do like, I eat a lot of. Such as corn, potatoes, and raisins). Great, now I need a steak...
