供
On Reading = とも (Retinue; Attendant; Serve)
Kun Reading = 供える 「そなえる」 (Offer)
Reading in the sentence above: 子供 「こども」 (Child)

You know the way you worded it is rather funny sounding.Of course we know you meant that your SISTER-IN-LAW was the one that had the baby.
But the way you put it:"My brother had a girl!"just made me chuckle
as I invisioned a scientific first:the first man to be pregnant and give birth!

I read it as "My brother has a kid. It's a girl." I think I've heard "kodomo ga imasu" in class before to refer to simply having a kid, not to the actual act. I wasn't sure if you would use the same vocab for saying that the kid was just born, so I just put that he has one. The Japanese students who read over it (I messaged like 5 Japanese people on my phone) said that I wrote it correctly...I dunno.
Anywho, yep, shuwa is sign language. I'm learning Japanese sign language, woot!! *doesn't even know ASL*
