Our Quirky Church Family

Ah yes,

The Church, refuge, sanctuary, site of spiritual uplifting. I take it all of us here have the "been there, done that" t-shirt when it comes to the Church experience. And as much as we appreciate the hardwork of God's servants, haven't their just been those moments in God's house that make you cringe? Old ladies flailing about and nearly drowning in the baptism tanks, little boys taking from the offering bin, Mary dropping baby Jesus during the Nativity Play, when it was a real baby. Just as you can poke fun at your own family, for all these moments, I present a thread to laugh with, not at, our quirky Church family.

My own personal cringe-

So we're 30 minutes into praise and worship, you know, the slow stuff that goes on and on and on. By this time we're all doing the Holy Spirit shuffle just kinda moaning back and forth when they say, "were going to introduce a new song!" So a few lyrics in all is fine when out of nowhere comes:

"Your fragrance is INTOXICATING"

And my eyes popped out of their sockets! "INTOXICATING?" Didn't I just hear that in a Britney Spear's song? "Fragrance, INTOXICATING?!?!?" I understood what they meant but it came off as "Jesus, you smell bad." To this day I cringe whenever I hear that line!!

Okay people, your turn................... :thumb:

Well being a PK the expierence could be rather embarrassing as from time to time what happened in the family could be repeated in church as part of the sermon

In posting in this thread, please remember to remain generally positive and treat your brothers and sisters in Christ respectfully.

That having been said, the primary trivial thing that annoys me in church services is excess clapping. Some songs are simply not made for it, yet certain individuals seem obligated to put their hands together no matter how out of place it is. When there are particularly bad examples I typically glance at the person next to me (provided I know them) roll my eyes, then start clapping while singing "Kumbayah."

HEHE...there is this one song "Blessed be the Name of the Lord"
Blessed be the name of Lord
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Most High
Blessed be the name of Lord
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Most High
The name of the Lord is a strong tower,
The righteous run into it, and they are saved
The name of the Lord is a strong tower,
The righteous run into it, and they are saved

Once I was singing this song with some friends in our choir area, and I heard the words "The Righteous run into it and they are saved!" I coudln't help but get a mental image of someone physically running into the side of a tower and like flattening!

I suddenly bent over laughing, and I couldn't stop!!!

There are times when our pastor is preaching and says something, in total innocence, that makes the teens start to giggle.

Okay, I admit it; I giggle too. But it's even more funny because he has no idea that what he just said could be taken a different (and far more embarrassing) way.

XD I've heard that song and thought the same thing. We used to sing it at my school a loooong time ago during chapels, and the first thing I always thought of was someone totally eating it by crashing into the side of a tower. XD

I can't really think of anything at the moment at my church, but I'm sure something will come along. XD
