Modesty Survey

I took a quick look around and searched and nothing seemed to come up, so if this has been mentioned before please excuse me.
For those who don't know, the team over at
http://www.therebelution.com have put together a modesty survey - created from the questions of 215 girls worldwide and is now being filled in by guys all over. The closing deadline is approaching, so if you're a Christian guy who appreciates the godly effort by girls to dress with their interests in mind, head over, and assuming you meet the age requirement, fill it in.
Also, girls who are curious can check out the website and preview the survey.
God bless,
G.

When I read the title of the thread, I thought it was a survey on who is modest.
"I'm the most modest person I've ever met. See? I'm even wearing my 'HUMBLE' button today."
Anyway, it will be interesting to see the results of that survey.

I dunno. In my opinion anything that's not practical for the type of weather or work, is immodest... But for swimsuits (on the survey)... I'd say a tankini is good but forget the baggy shorts over the bottom.... >.<
Just know, if whatever you're wearing could make someone stumble it ain't worth putting on. hehe

I looked over that survey earlier, and I'm interested in seeing the results. Some of the questions, I agreed with (like really short skirts and the like), but some of the questions I thought were a little more strange. Like, a form-fitting dress (i.e., a classic black sheath) has never struck me as "immodest" or "innapropriate" in any way; I've always thought of those as very classy. In fact, looking at some of the clothes they had in the pictures made me want to go shop for something similar. XD;
I just kind of hope that the survey doesn't make girls look like they should all be wearing cloth bags when it's all said and done. XD; There's something to be said for looking fashionable and modest at the same time. XD

Only a few questions in at parts but I'm closing in on 50% agree/disagree, lol. I don't see how someone can say "Modest pajamas" are inappropriate. They're near full body clothes that are more comfortable than other stuff.

Yeah, it seems very odd. I don't really know that this survey is very well handled. There's also a lot of things where circumstance and individual issues come in a lot -- for example, I've never found bare shoulders to be an issue for me. I'm sure there's people out there who struggle with it, but how common are they? What am I supposed to say?
If you take these ideas to an extreme, women ought to stay indoors for fear that a man might stumble.
I think a lot of the problem is in how the statements are phrased.
EDIT: I also know that my eyes wander a whole lot less than they did when I was a teenager, so I start to see more aesthetic value in some outfits that would certainly be a much larger issue for younger men. So I guess that's just one more factor that makes this survey difficult: environment.
EDIT 2: And the whole 'your answers are final' thing is annoying -- I just clicked the wrong bubble xD

Upon reading more I really don't get some questions. I think I disagree with 90% of the Skirts/dresses section. One question was "is a fitted dress immodest, even if it shows NO skin?" and gave a picture and she's fully covered except hands/face with the dress loosely showing the shape of her body. Uhh, duh that's ok?
I agree with you Triez on two points. First this survey makes it seem like women should just stay inside, which is the opposite of my stance on things. Second, my eyes wander less than they may have earlier in life. Not that I ever thought it was a big issue for me, most of the time I decide if a girl is someone I'll be interested in or not before she's bending over and showing herself off and I can easily ignore her lol. A lot of it has to do with modesty in dress, but I don't agree with what that site seems to say, in that I don't think every girl should be wearing sweats at all times without any lettering or coloration near the chest so as to not bring attention to their bust.
For me I love to see a girl that looks comfortable in what she's wearing, if she looks like she's trying to get attention through dress
and if she looks like she just decided to put on whatever jumped out of her dresser at her
Then again my standards are probably weird, my ex-fiancee could take a shower and be dressed and ready within the time it took me to just take a shower, lol. Most attractive part of a girl is her

Geeze, I'm glad you guys feel this way. XD I kept thinking that, by that site's standards, I'd be needing to go out and replace my already-modest wardrobe with a whole new wardrobe of bland and baggy clothes if I wanted to consider myself truly "modest". XD

OK taking it now.
1. I think its a little janky that they ask about HS vs PS, and that they make you write a paragraph about why you want to take it...
P.S. The signup form is really pissin' me off... POOR DESIGN. Oh and the graphic at the top makes the site look muslum not christian... whats with the headscarf thing anyhow? Makes me feel like Im looking af phots from Dubai.
2. The quiz. I think some of the questions are a little... guided or presumptious, and some of the questions I've seen so far don't really apply to anything I've ever seen or thought about. I disagree with some of the examples that I've seen so far too.
The layering questions are stupid... it asks if taking off a sweatshirt when wearing appropriate attire under is right. WHAT CENTURY ARE WE IN?
3. Conclusion. I havn't finished it yet, but some summary thoughts. It's a little... over the top at parts. I ended up neutraling a LOT of questions becase they didn't make sense to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put a section for "Do you think women in an astronaut's suit is modest or not?"

. . . Wow. If those are the opinions of every Christian man on the face of the planet, I must lock myself in my room and never come out. Because I have nothing modest by that definition.
*doesn't see a single question that's answered "___________ is modest."

Really, I don't see the point in this survey. Chances are any girl that would look into such a survey is already dressing in a modest manner, the only "problems" are the girls who won't read the results, so...

But if you look at the things that are considered "immodest," even most girls who strike to be modest wouldn't meet those standards. I know, being a college student at a Christian college, a lot of the girls buy clothes that would be immodest and put really cute t-shirts under them. By this survey, even that is immodest.

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to as well.
One plus about this survey is that I clicked on this link:

Very insightful article.

Agree or Disagree
A purse with the strap diagonally across the chest draws too much attention to the bust.
I think that's pretty dumb. That's almost saying "Be careful with purses! It makes your chest protrude even more!"
Agree or Disagree
Showing bra straps, even unintentionally, is a stumbling block.
To me that's just ridiculous. I personally don't find it a stumbling block, I just find it somewhat messy and unsymmetrical.
Agree or Disagree
High-heeled shoes (2" or higher) are a stumbling block.
Uhm.... what?
But I think what the test is trying to do is find the stance of how most men feel. Perhaps everyone is going to say "Disagree" with a certain question? I don't know. I'm curious as to what the results are as well.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:Oh and this too: "High-heeled shoes (2" or higher) are a stumbling block." To that I say: "Uhm.... what?"
XD Seriously! 2" can barely even be considered high heels, and if they're immodest, I guess that means I'd be immodest much of the time. XD
Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this quiz is regular-type whack. XD

High heels are only a stumbling block if a girl is unused to wearing them and trips on a crack in the sidewalk.
Seriously though are all the questions on the survey like that? And if so why?

Mmmm, I'm taking this thing and I do have to ask: Where have these people been living? Fitted skirts and dresses have been acceptable women's wear for CENTURIES. That's right, centuries. Perhaps they haven't discovered official paintings of Queen Victoria (See here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Queen_Victoria_in_her_coronation_robes.jpg Fitted skirts and V-shaped collars without cleavage! What is the world coming to?!?) or seen 20's ads from the Sears and Roebuck catalog, but such things are acceptable women's wear in normal society. And some of the questions are simply bizarre, like asking if earrings are a stumbling block. Earrings? Come on. If this survey comes out suggesting all women wear shapeless jumper dresses, I'm going to scream.

The survey questions are not necessarily expressing the opinions of the survey writers. They probably had to put extremes in there to get a good sampling of people's opinions. Soooo... answer with your opinions!

That's what I deduced. I'm sure they're expecting a lot of people to disagree a lot with certain answers to find the general consensus.

I'm doing it at the moment, but it's very long and I'm commenting on most of them.
Guys, do earing and girls playing with their hair make you stumble? (think of sex).
We do have some self control. Good grief!

Finally finished the survey - it took ages.
Take note ladies! (lol)

Hmmm.
From the sound of it (I haven't taken it yet and I'm not sure I will), they're defining anything remotely attractive as a stumbling block.
A girl can look attractive and feminine without looking slutty.

Like Eirewolf and I said, they're bringing up absurd questions to find exactly where men lie on the spectrum. They aren't saying "You disagree than you're immoral".

The problem is, they aren't going to get accurate results BECAUSE of how absurd a lot of it is (not to mention a lot of poor wording).
A better way to have handled the survey (in my opinion) would be to have each one phrased as a question instead of a statement. Instead of "X is (im)modest [agree/disagree]", it would very likely get more accurate results with "Do you find X to be (im)modest? [yes/somewhat/no]" or something along that line. I also think the term 'modest' is too vague to base the survey on, but since (I think) the goal of the survey is to determine what it is that causes Christian males to stumble, then the survey should be a bit more ... well ... blunt. A sizable chunk of the questions already are about how much attention various articles of clothing draw to various bits of person anyway.

I just think 150 questions is too many. Surely they could have narrowed it down to 50 good questions?

The thought never occured to me. Yes, many of the questions are redundant, and that would probably be a better idea.

IMNSHO, Modesty in clothing is culturally specific... In a primarily traditional muslim country, for the christian women to wear, say, most American clothing would probably be immodest. In many south American and African tribes, there's really nothing wrong with the women there (as well as the men) going nearly naked. It's not like they're trying to use their bare skin to entice someone... So, it is very culturally specific...
Of course, in the US, I think staying, say, a notch or two above the acceptable limit in the secular world is a good bet.
