What if the Bible were turned into a manga?

i came up with a thread for this topic like half a year ago. however, i decided to start another thread on this topic, as it seems like a pretty interesting topic to me. anyways, here are my thoughts and ideas:
It would definitely be rated "M"
I think the best mangaka to do this would probably be Kentarou Miura (author of Berserk) because of his experience in drawing many battles and wars. also, his characters aren't really all that "anime-like". they're more realistic. Miura also has experience in drawing detailed towns and villages. i think he's the best suited to draw this manga if the Bible were to actually be turned into a manga.
I think that if the Bible were turned into a manga, it'd definitely be around 140+ volumes long.

Ever see those "Picture Bibles" that have the Bible in a sort of comic book form? They've been around for decades. I had one when I was a kid; actually, I had two or three, because my first one fell apart. There are a few copies in the Sunday School room where I'm going to be teaching, and there are excerpts in the kids' take-home handouts as well.

I used to have one too. My dad used to read it to me at night before I went to bed. XD

The bible is written in such a way that you couldn't make the whole thing into a graphic novel. Like the Pslams, lol.

yeah. it'd be hard to do Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon too.

I searched your old thread, and this one is almost an exact duplicate of the old thread. I'm sure it didn't strike you this way, but that's basically the equivilant of grave-digging. Our general rule about grave-digging is that it's OK if you haven't some other pertinent information to add to the discussion. But just repeating something you already said is a no-no. For now, because several people have posted and it's not like the thread is causing any controversey or anything, I'm going to allow it to remain open. However, for the future, you'll probably want to be aware that duplicated threads will be locked. Thanks!

I think I have a comic-bible somewhere in the house; it's pretty big and detailed.
If it was done in manga style, it would definitely be very long.
And while psalms might seem difficult to do at first thought, if you think about it a little more, you could always do really beautiful full-page backgrounds that illustrate either the feeling of the psalm or various imagery from within it. It might actually turn out to be one of the easier books to do (well... not quite, since psalms is so long), since thought it would have a lot of text you mightn't have to draw so many individual panels.

Zondervan's already on it.

Scroll down just a little and you'll see it.

Not that it's TRUE manga, more like manga-inspired...

The story of David would be the greatest one in my opinion, because of how much detail his life had.

I think a carefully written version of the story of Job could make a good (if short) anime, especially if it is carefully condenscend and subtly animated.

it'd be cool to see Paul's missions trips in Acts. i also think that Exodus would be interesting. i'm really eager to see how 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, and Judges would turn out.

The problem with Revelation is that one would have to do several different versions to account for all the major different schools of interpretation.

(Takes out ruler, does math.) Te series would be over 140 books.... man that series could take at least take up to countless years to make. (Although the Revelations book would be awesome!) In the end though it seams it would be impossible to stay focused on making it.
would be cool though

I thought of this idea before. I could be really good if handled seriously and not made pop culturey stupid-like. Yeah I agree, David is like non-stop plotting, scheming, LOTR style fighting! I could be an awesome manga!

yep. many of the battles in the Old Testament would be pretty crazy. though i'm sure that they would be pretty bloody and stuff too. that's one of the reasons why i think Miura would be a good artist to do it, if they actually did release a manga for the Bible.

David's life would have to be X rated(or whatever it is now)in certain places because of sex and violence. And let's be honest there are few places in the OT that would be able to get a G or PG rating.

Definitely. For one thing, the animal sacrifices come up a lot. ^^"
Hey... wouldn't the bit with Abraham and Issac when they went up for the sacrifice be really intense and scary if done well? That could make a great manga story.

Are we going to resurrect that whole "Would Jesus be a bishonen" debate again?

Well, I hope not, though I didn't see the original.

Even if the bible wasn't made into a full manga, some of the stories within could be made into excellent short manga. Personally, now that I've talked about it, I think it would be interesting to try to do that... even if I'm working on quite a few other projects at the moment. Would anyone else be interested in doing such a thing too?
