Okay, so I've never been any great fan of Barbie. I really only had them as a child because I felt peer pressured into it. She's probably always been a materialistic bimbo, but this is just taking it WAY too far. Yes, they've made her body proportions less unrealistic, but instead they've put her in clothes that adult women probably shouldn't wear, much less little girls.

See that second link up there? You call that a shirt? It looks like a glittery handkerchief. And I won't even get started on the skirt, if you can call it that. And the "bling bling" accessories...it makes me want to strangle somebody with a 24 karat gold chain. People call the 80s a materialistic decade-- the materialism of the 80s pales in comparison to this crap.

Besides, what the crap are we telling our little girls with this? It's okay to dress like a slut, and clothes and diamonds and cars are the only thing you should aspire to have in life! Oh, and get collagen injected into your lips so you can look like Barbie! While you're at it, be empty-headed like her too!

Don't even get me started on those infernal Bratz dolls.

Hmmm, yeah, I'd definitely say that it would have been more appropriate for the Barbie corporation to have called this "Clubbing Barbie." Just goes to show that by the time we have kids we'll have to make our own toys to give them.

I've already seen Barbies in stores wearing those types of tops :/ Those are the Barbies that are like, trying to sell to the slightly older group of girls, methinks. Either way, these dolls are reflecting the future of young girls :/ I mean, have you even SEEN the stuff younger girls wear these days?! Back in MY day (heh reminds me of the "getting older" topic^^) we just wore whatever was in the closet. Not like they had too many "cool" things out then either, though.

Ugh.

I've never been a big fan of Barbie. XD I did have some at one time (they were all given to me), but this is just ridiculous. I pretty much agree with everything you've said in your post. This whole "bling bling" phase that the mainstream is going through right now has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Not only could they not come up with a better name (I mean, come on...Bling-bling? e_e), but it's all about materialism and pimps with their hookers. Gag me with a spoon, here. :/

Are you kidding? Barbie was awesome...back then. So was Lego, but that's a different toy. Maybe she was that "materialistic bimbo" to you all, but to me...she was a feminist who battled the forces of masculinity while retaining the poise and grace of a fairy. XD

To you all, it's crap, but to me, it's a tragedy. How could my childhood toy, which could do no wrong in my elementary school eyes, turn into an embodiment of society's woes? I weep.

Thank goodness Disney came up with the Disney Princesses.

I love it. I think I'll get one so I can have one for a future (god forbid) daughter.

O.O I do hope they don't take the clotheings to another level in that direction.

Um... those don't look like Barbies to me. They look an awful lot like those Bratz dolls though.... I guess the Bratz dolls must be eating into Barbies' sales.

Yeah, I have seen that Bratz things. diden't they have a game where girls did make 'cool points' by doing bad stuff? Who designs/makes stuff like that?

anways... GAHH!! what the heck? maybe if Barie was wearing a black under shirt and leggings that woudl look cool (decides to draw someone wearing that version) but wow.. that's like..icky.
I am so glad my lil sis likes littlest pet shops still...

I am not a huge fan of the BRATZ dolls either but that's... another story.

EDIT: I still laugh at the proportions though...she should be falling over... XD

I guess something else that's really sad is that a lot of women dress their little girls like tramps on purpose because they think it's "cute". >_<

Geez, those hardly resemble Barbie, they shouldn't put her name on them.

I mean, sure she was anorexic, but at least Barbie was a career woman.

And what's up with the fish-lips anyways? Angelina Jolie needs to have hers copyrighted, methinks.

I first discovered these dolls when I was searching for a Christmas gift for my niece last Christmas. I was shocked and horrified, at the image being portrayed for little girls these days.
First off, those weird Barbies look more like street walkers than ... well, whatever it is they are supposed to be. Second off, think of all the other toys that go with them - the limos, the cars, the hottubs!!! This is not the kind of lifestyle I even want my kid pretending to have! It's so incredibly materialistic and in my opinion, anti-Christ. (As in, opposite of what Jesus was and taught.)
Then there's the Bratz dolls. I refuse to buy those for anyone, as they portray the same materialistic view. (And they're UGLY!!) And they don't always dress much better! For example the Rock Angelz line - that doll on the left end - her hip joints are sticking out of the pants because the pants are cut so low. I just don't want my kid thinking make-up, jewelry and clothes make a person. I'd really like her to be a bit deeper than that.
It's no wonder our kids try so hard to be popular. All the toys tell them that's the only way to go. So so sad.

About those Bratz dolls...their faces all look the same even though each "character" is supposed to be different. Hmmm...same expression, same lips and everything. What kind of message do you think THAT'S sending?

They are My Scene dolls.

Those things really disgust me. 1.they are incredibly UGLY XD and 2 they send the completly wrong message. I feel awful that that is what barbie has turned into. I've seen some of the earlier desines for it and those where almost cute... but these...these things are just horrible and I keep telling my little sister that this is not how girls are supposed to look. But my poor little half sister is completly in love with thenm and my dad actually buys them for her!! I wish I could go out to Washington to tell her that it's not right and how it's sexist and materialistic.then tell my dad off and his wife that it's wrong!!!

What's hilarious about a lot of these products is that they're often marketed with some sort of "girl power" shtick. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for women being equal, and having careers (if that's what God calls them to do), but this sort of thing does nothing but limit a woman's potential, instead of "empower" us.

I can be a succesful woman in my glasses and librarian-like clothes! You'll see!
