The Con Report begins at the top of page 3, if you want to know what's going on. Other CAAer's here, feel free to chime in with your own musings.

hmm...

maybe.

if I went I'd be sorely tempted to spend my money on anime stuff, which would essentially be a waste of money.

maybe I'll stop by on Sunday. Only $15 to get in then. The only problem is that I'd have no one to go with and it would be a rather sad occasion to walk around a con all by myself.

If anyone is interested in saying "hi," look for two large white men - the tall one will have a yellow CAA messenger bag and would probably actually answer to Termyt if you called him by it. The short one will be his brother, wo very rarely posts here but is the CAA Colloege Pick'em champ, so he does have that going for him.

Kawaiikneko, I doubt we'd be any fun to hang out with, but we could probably keep you from buying anything from the dealer's room as long as you are easily distracted by movement or shiny things.

I'm going to try to go, but that's a heck of a drive alone. Maybe I can stay the night with a friend who lives up there, if she hasn't left for her mission by then.

Well, we could do that, but it would make it very inconvenient for all of the oHIoians registered to go.

I'm all for meeting with anyone who wants to. Perhaps we could all have lunch or dinner one day or just hang out for a while. I've never been to Ohayocon before, so I'm not sure what a good meeting place would be.

I may show up on Sunday, but I doubt it... Although there are two girls at my church who are interested in anime. I'm trying to sow into their lives and it might be fun to take them out with me...

I wouldn't be able to bring money though =_= Saving up for a Coach purse. That kinda sucks half the fun out of going to a convention.

The Con Report: Day X Hour Y

Postby termyt » Fri Jan 05, 2007 1:26 pm

Termyt, reporting live from the con:

What's a con that isn't behind schedule?

I don't know, I've never been to one.

The registration line was long, but if you were smart enough to not pre-register, it moved fast enough. This is the largest con I've been to and there is definitely something to be said for small cons.

But that is all behind me now. We are looking forward to the Monica Rial Celebrity Roast this evening. If I am still able to type a coherent sentence later, I will let you know how it goes, assuming anyone is reading this. Also up tonight is the Pajama Dance and the Anti-War rally – neither of which do I plan to attend. Perhaps if another CAAer here does, they can chime in with their con report.

There are four video rooms, too. I either own or have seen everything that is not hentai, but then, I watch a lot of anime. The rooms seem stocked with only anime that has been officially licensed and released in the US – no fansubs.

If I find a set of AA batteries to replace the dead ones in my camera, I may start taking pictures.

If you have questions, shout them out.

That's all for now.

Not Ohayocon?

Registration was a disaster.

You know, while I was eating the worst Chinese food I've ever had for dinner in the food court, I saw a guy at a nearby table wearing a VeggieTales shirt. I almost went over and asked if they were from CAA, but I didn't.

It has been pretty fun, the 50% done haseo cosplay has gotten a suprising amount of reaction. Which is good since I have been super freaked out about it.

Also prereg was bad but no where near as bad as the horrendous line that was normal reg.

Con Report II

Postby termyt » Fri Jan 05, 2007 9:26 pm

Pre-reg was a nightmare, but the line was only half as long as the other reg line, so even though normal reg moved faster, pre-reg folks were still probably better off. Still, they need a better process.

The con report continues:

Day X Hour Y

For the record, I liked the Chinese food in the food court. I had the Sesame Chicken. It wasn’t the best, but it was passable.

Three things of interest took place this evening for yours truly:
The Roast of Monica Rial
The AMV Contest
The Secret ADV Premiere Event

The Roast was age rated at 18+, which is unfortunate. It would be nice if the powers at be – read that as the insane geeks with nothing better to do than go through the crazy lengths it takes to host a con – were a little less vulgar. But I feel I am in the minority there, at least at looking at my own generation, so the fact that it was dominated by innuendo and that which was far to explicit to be considered innuendo is no real surprise. Suffice to say the audience as a whole seemed far more entertained than I was.

The AMV contest, on the other hand, was very good. There were some very good entries in the show this year. The highlight for me was a Full Metal Panic AMV set to the Mr. & Mrs. Smith movie trailer. Look for that to come to You Tube in the near future. I'll try to post links if I can find some of the videos on the web someplace.

The Secret ADV Premiere had it’s problems, the largest of which once again showed the lack of thought put into the con planning. How many people out of a con with a few thousand attendees do you think may show for an event labeled “ADV Premiere?â€

Con Report III

Postby termyt » Sat Jan 06, 2007 3:18 pm

Day X Hour Y

Coming to you live via the $9.99 per day hotel internet connection, it’s the Con Report. Our man in the field, Termyt, reporting.

We’ve had a good time today. The Funimation panel was good. The best thing I can say is this: Tsubasa has been delayed because they are giving it first class treatment. That means Funimation is pouring a ton of production time and talent into the project looking to make it their premiere release this year. Slayers fans may want to know that the Slayers release was delayed because Funimation got its hands on newly remastered copies and decided to stop production in favor of using the new masters. We got to see the first episode of Beck - @#$#, is there a #$%! of @#$!& language in that $#&^. We were also treated with five minutes worth of Solty Rei – just enough to intrigue me into wanting to see more, but not enough time to know why.

I’m going to talk a little about cosplay with the big cosplay event coming up to night. I feel bad because I have not taken any pictures. The only shot I have is one my brother took with his cell phone of a member of the 501st. (That’s a Stormtrooper for you non-Star Wars fanboys and girls out there). There’s actually quite a few non-anime cosplays this year. I’ve seen Jean Grey, Mystique, even a Ghostbuster. As a matter of fact, I’ve seen more Jack Sparrows than anything else with out a swirlly head band. Naruto is definitely the new Sailor Moon.

Con Report: Termyt's Final

Postby termyt » Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:19 pm

What is Sunday at the con, you ask? Well there's still plenty of activity, thanks largely to the fact that the price of Friday Only + Saturday Only is greater than the cost of the three day pass.

My brother and I decided on one last activity before the long drive home - the Sunday Morning Devotional hosted by the one and only Caitlin Glass.

You may recognize Caitlin from her work in FMA (Winry), Gunslinger Girl (Triela), or perhaps Spiral (Hiyono). She does a pretty good job as a devo leader, too. Apparently she and Vic run one at all the cons they attend.

Her message was The One Thing. Here are my notes on her lesson:

The 27th Psalm:
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the LORD—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
delighting in the LORD’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the LORD with music.
7 Hear me as I pray, O LORD.
Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.â€
