What should Ash...

I had a thought this weekend that it might be fun to write a column (probably monthly) and my boyfriend suggested that I should target it towards you fellow CAA'ers. That begs the question though: what would you be interested in hearing me rant about? The struggles of being a Christian anime fan? Extrapolating theological material from any anime series? Comparing Tanemura to Michelangelo? Tell me your ideas, and I just might go with it!

Personally I like the idea of the struggles of being a Christian anime fan.
When this column gets written where will it appear?

I second the Struggles of being a Christian Anime Fan. Not only is it a good ides, but I think that it could also be very informative for the concerned Christian Parents we get every so often. I think it'd be a nice thing to help them better understand just what thier child has gotten themselves into.

Well, I'd talk to the staff about it (I'm not sure that it's fair or appropriate to hijack the forums for my own purposes, and I'm equally unsure that we want to open the door for others to start writing columns, too), but either here or on my LJ.

The only problem with this is continuity. Sure, I could write one, maybe 2 good ones about it...but the things is, I don't continually struggle with being a Christian AND an anime fan. The most flack I get nowadays is from my college friends who eyeball the posters in my room but write it off as part of my calling to Japan. So while I agree it's a good subject, I'm hesitant because I don't know how I'd be able to write often enough.

perhaps ranting on life as a christian in this world period, while pinging on the topic of an anime fan every once in a while, or using anime as examples in some cases

I just conceived an idea so random it would probably wont be practical and will thus be rejected, but here goes. Maybe you can start
CAANews subdomain or something where there is just reporting on new releases of anime and such on a fortnightly basis with the articles you plan on writing can be posting with contributions by other people. But as I said, it's execution is essentially so complicated (who's going to be part, who's going to build it, etc) that it isn't practical to attempt. Maybe just a 'oppinion article' forum somewhere on the existing site open to only mods?

I like Yeshua's idea. Allows for good variety but is relevant to a larger demographic.

I would leave the subject of the column open ended. Write about whatever topic interests you at the moment. You listed a number of good topics, all of which would make an interesting column or two.
It's your site and I bet a large number of the membership here would enjoy reading and responding to your columns, so I don't think the general impression would be you are hijacking the site. Perhaps you could allow a guest columnist every once and a while to assuage complaints that just anyone is not allowed a column as well.

I think it would be interesting to write about how being an anime fan has helped rather than hinder, as people seem to suppose must happen, your walk with God. But that would be a one time topic.

Personally I'd say that it'd be neat seeing you extrapolate on the theology behind the anime Ashley.

I think you should write on the struggles of being a Raiders fan in the NFL today. *hears boos* Hey! Ash used to listen to audio of Raiders games when she was learning about the NFL!
Btw. Hey Steelers fans. HA!

I think it should be open ended, something that can be your "voice" to the regular joe of CAA. Though I hate to think of us as becoming so big we don't know everyone, I do think that for one reason or another, alot of sectioning has occured, and people have grown "distant" from others, including the mods.
Personally, I see this as a doorway to a whole lot of other content that could expand CAA into a group even larger than what we have currently, producing something of our own other than just what we pick up through Anime and other subjects. Is there something we could do that would be CAA official Product? I have no idea, and I know I'm drifting off topic, but I think CAA could expand healthily even as a "Mod's Voice" or some sort of news collumn brought people closer together. After all, what with this new era of Shadowmodding (I remember the good old days before a few large troll attacks when you could SEE when a mod was on or not, and then it just went...into shadowmodding) Mods have kinda drifted abit from some members of the CAA community (Like me for example, I can't remember the last time I had a good conversation with Ashley, or Ark, or Ink (Who is sadly dissapeared from the board) or Shooby... or even some of the older members who are modlike in their wisdom, like Technomancer, or Ingemar and the like.
Anything that brings us closer together, I think, will be good, powerful stuff, to better CAA and CAA members.
Just my two cents.

Oh noes! My dark secret revealed!
Tis true, folks.

Kinda going off this idea, what do you guys think about this:
What if I left it open? You guys could write me questions/suggestions every month, and I'd pick three or four to address, or if it's a topic I really like I'd write on that. We could do fun stuff like what character I would cosplay as to serious stuff like "how do I explain anime to my parents" or whatever. It'd be what YOU guys want to hear. Occasionally I could take a break and write more serious stuff, like the other ideas before. What say ye?

A rotating, mailbag type thing like you suggest would make most sense to me. While you can spend a long time on any single topic if you get far enough into it, being able to address a bunch of different questions has its own appeal, and gives endurance to the column (if that's what you want). I would be interested (dependent, of course, on the topics), and I say go for it. Though it may not matter, my two cents on the location is that you could always set up a section of the forum like is set up for the radio show. Though this would be your writing rather than the work of a number of people, there's no reason I can see to not do so, and you could even have a comments section after the article itself...

If it's a column, I think it should be more editorial based. You give your expert opinion on what you think is good for CAAers to hear about whether it's policy, anime series, world issues, Christian issues, or even CAA threads. It should be a WE get to know more about YOU while also giving INSIGHT to a person's (of whom we all respect) point of view of things that pertain to everyone here.

If you do decide to make a community thing, I'd like to come on board. I already write a column for Anime Angels' mangazine, so I could probably just copy my own column. I already have a logo in mind too!

I say you should write about what's important to YOU. However, I would enjoy articles about the plight of a Christian anime fan in particular. ^_^

I can think of certain threads *I'd* rather she didn't rant on, heh heh heh.
