I used to play the clarinet. I didn't find note memorization that hard, but surprisingly, I couldn't read music today if I tried. XD Still, the worst part of the clarinet, for me, was those nasty reeds...Man, those things were so gross. XD

When I was in 2nd-4th grade I played a recorder and ukelele in music class :/ Our school system was cruel to us though and once we hit gr 7 and went to middle school, we could ONLY pic between art&drama or band :/ I decided on ther other, because I'd rather draw... One day it would be ncie to learn the violin though^^
Being in a marchign band sounds tough though :/ How CAN you play AND march in a syncronized pattern at the same time? @_@... just amazes me on people's ability to do that...

Well, memorization isn't TOO hard, but for long pieces like drumline(drumline is fun but it is alot of work), it is a bit hard. Plus, the drums are about 20 lbs.
But I use to want to play clarinet. But I can't read alphabetical notes as good, from A-G.

Ooh...ditto. We had a 120 piece marching band that shifted into concert mode when football was over. Until my senior year, when we started changing our style to support contests, we did a completely new show for every home game. All music memorized. I think this was really good brain training. I did a little professional work with a pep band for a national soccer team. Then it was off to college where I didn't do so much playing anymore.
Still got the music bug, so I sing in the choir at my church.

I can play the piano, but my skill goes little beyond recognizing keys and notes.

I took piano lessons from before 2nd grade through graduating high school, I haven't been able to practice since starting college, which really bums me out, but I'll pick it up again when I graduate.
I've also played flute since 6th grade and piccolo since 10th. I am currently in pep band and university band at school.
I did marching band my first two years of college, and loved it. It took a while, since I hated it at first, but it really grew on me. Piccolo was really fun to play, and it didn't hurt at all that it weighs less than a pound and could fit up my sleeve in bad weather.

How do you tune two piccolos?
Kill one.
(you'll only get this if you've spent time around multiple piccolos)

I played trumpet in middle school through my sophomore year of highschool. I took piano lessons before that for a few years. Then I dropped both for the most part and took up the guitar and the drums. I wish I would have kept up with the piano.

Has anyone else suggested this being moved to Jam Session?
I play drums and keyboards, and I plan on starting the washboard.

I took piano lessons from first grade until I was a sophmore in high school but had to quit because we moved from Idaho to Alaska. Also in junior high and high school I played the sousaphone in band and later the baritone. The sousaphone is one of the heaviest instruments to carry while marching.

And they wanted me to play sousaphone...(To give you an idea of how ridiculous this is....I don't even weigh enough to give blood).

OUCH!
Yeah,it can get heavy especially after marching for awhile and I wasn't that heavy myself,in fact I was always pretty skinny growing up.When I graduated I was probably no heavier than 125-130 lbs.I didn't get to 150 until I was in Bible School.

I used to play the alto sax in the school's band during middle school but then the teacher changed schools. I tried to stick in there, but then we got a this teacher that I couldn't stand, so I quitted.
By my mom and pastor got on my case and I joined the church orchestra years later.
I'm not in band but everyone keeps trying to GUILT me back in. I CAN'T STAND it!! The school band is so tiny and we don't do marching anymore. But I REALLY don't want to go back plus I love not being forced to spend my precious unwinding time practicing that thing.
I love playing for the church. It's fun even though I have to run around on stage to do choir too. But I really don't want to go back to doing it for a grade when I see absolutely NO long term benefit whatsoever... I'll have to give up my
only elective period (I'm taking business)
*ehem* Anyways, I always wanted to learn the piano and guitar.
But what I love most about the sax is that guys are usually the ones to play them. Being different ish fun.

I tampered around with piano and guitar when I was younger, but never really learned how to play them well. I would still like to learn the electric guitar someday.
I can play the PS2 guitar.
