Post Count and RPGs

I think that posts made in the role play forums should be added to a person's post count, but alas, they aren't. Therefore, my post count is HIGHLY inaccurate.
I understand why posts in Goof Off don't count, (that's why it's called Goof Off), but the posts in the RPG area are actual, thought out posts.

Why don't RPG posts count? And does anyone else want them to count too?

Hmm, I suppose because RP'ing is kinda like goofing off, only with structure? I dunno, I guess it doesn't really matter to me...I mean, you're not your post count, y'know?

But ultimately, I think they don't count because a lot of people don't go to the RP forum. I mean, if someone who was in 10 RPs and had 2,000 posts there made a post in the General forum, and someone saw them and said, "Who is this guy, he has 2,000 posts and I've never seen him in the year I've been here!" It might be confusing, you know? XD

Yeah, I guess I see what you're saying, it's just that I feel, don't laugh, rather small and insignificant, because my worst fear is that someone I will never meet will take me for a newb because they judged me by my post count. :forehead:

I'M KIDDING!!!!!!!

I do see what you're saying, though. It would be cool if there was a seperate, optional RPG post counter that could be placed in a person's signature or right under their other post count. But that sounds like a alot of work for someone who probably dosn't care anyway.

I've just always wondered about the post count thing.

Well, if you want, just figure out how many posts you have in the RP section and post the number in your signature, and every time you make a post go into your User CP and increase it by one.

Of course, that would take a lot of work. XD

OR you could say in your siggy that you have been here for a long time and say that you are an avid roleplay fangirl!! ^_^ THEN the masses will understand!

RPG posts originally counted, but this was changed after some time. I see several primary reasons for this:
1) There is no way to distinguish between posts that took a great deal of time and chat roleplays. Some games become exchanges of one line posts, often with no real thought.
2) Posting in an RPG is different than in a normal discussion. If two people are on at the same time, they can post in their thread numerous times whereas in most normal discussions it isn't possible to make more than one post a day.
3) RPG posts contribute to the forums differently. An average post will be seen by quite a few people, whereas most roleplay posts will only be read by a few players. Similarly, post counts now are spread over many subjects and forums, whereas big RPers can have 10,000+ posts in a single thread. That's a considerable amount of effort, but anyone who hasn't seen the thread is completely unaffected by all of them.

I realize I don't have room to voice a complaint similar to yours with my post count. But hopefully this will help you understand our reasoning, at least.

I'm noticing two things for the first time:

(1) uc's 11,000+ post count, and

(2)that RPG posts don't add to the post count.

Since we have a mod's attention: uc, why don't you guys just put a disclaimer on the RP board like the Goof Off board has? That will stop misunderstanding, at least.

In some ways I'm glad my post count doesn't include my RP posts...*shivers* oh so many, I just don't want to know how many...

I wouldn't worry too much about post counts. Not that many people judge based off of them. I don't atleast, besides being able to tell who's a regular and who isn't.

Yep, click on the number next to the thread that is under the colum titled "Replies" it should give you a breakdown of the different people who have posted in that thread and how many posts they have each made.

I'm gonna do that, just to see how many there really are. As for putting it in my sig, I haven't yet decided.

I just realized...

If the frequent posters of the Bump Thread were to have their true post count shown...My gosh, the thought itself is scary. XD

... and now you know why goof-off posts don't count...

Hm, I didn't realize there wasn't one. We could probably do that, right Mithrandir?

Right. What matters to me is if I have had any previous conversations with that person, not how many posts they have. The only time I use post counts is when I'm trying to recall if a member is someone I saw in a thread some time ago, or just a new member with a similar name.

And even then, the individual posts matter more than the member's reputation. I didn't quote Mr. SmartyPants because he has 8000+ posts, but because he made a good point. I'd have quoted a newbie's first post, too.

1,512 and counting.

Ok, so I had to guesstimate 'cause some of my old RPs are SO old, you can't access the # of replies, person specific, anymore. I really didn't feel like going through over 400 pages of posts...*shrug* Well, post count dosn't matter anyways. I had just always wondered how many I really had, RPGs included. :eyeroll:

I'm just the weird kid in the corner with a sketchpad, but . . .

Why is post count so important?

Because of what the signature pic of one guy on Arlong Park says.

And no, I won't quote it here. XD

Post count isn't important. I just felt like starting a discussion on something I doubted anyone had considered before. I know, it was pretty random.
As I said before, I was just thinking about it, and decided to inquire.
