Game Maker, anyone...?

So, yeah. I've taken up game making as a hobby using this awesome (free!!!) program called...well, Game Maker. XD There are a bunch of Christian anime fans on the forums, so I was wondering if anyone's over there?
If you want to see what this *awesome* program is...

I looked at this program a few years ago, though I found it didn't quite do what I needed it to for The Traveller's Guide so I ended up programming my own engine from scratch instead.
But for someone with little or no programming experience, I'd say it looks like a pretty good tool for making games. ^_^
Here's hoping we can play some of your work in the future, Heart.

I'm making a wolf simulation. ^__^
Really? It's developed a LOT from the version that you probably had. Now it has 3D capabilities. It's great. (I'm going to register soon so I can make FPS games)

I just looked at the docs again, and it looks like the engine still doesn't support the DirectMusic segment file format (*.sgt) which I like to use for looping music with the restart point being somewhere in the middle of the file. Oh, well... *shrug*

There are other ways you can loop the music...and you could use codes for the restart point...

rpg toolkit is also a very good one. I played with this one for a while.

I also gave the RPG Toolkit a try a while back, but I ran into the same problem I did with Game Maker -- it didn't have the capabilities I needed (besides the fact that it was also sluggish and buggy at the time...
).
Maybe one day I'll have a look at both of them again for a minor project or two, but I ain't startin' The Traveller's Guide over a fourth time; I'm happy with my current VB-based self-coded engine, thank you.
But while we're on the subject of game-making engines, I'll recommend the
OHRRPGCE for making some decent RPGs. It doesn't have as many features as the RPG Toolkit, but it's more stable and less buggy. ^_^

I much prefer
this engine, as it allows a lot more freedom than any of the above programs.

I tried this... um.. 5 years back!
Although I didn't play around with it as much as I should have.
I guess I'm with MelodyMaker here, with the self-coding preference (although I didn't actually produce much down that path either).

Ever try RPGmaker? It's awesome!

Anyone know of a mac based game making engine that'll allow me to make a fighting game?

I've tried RPG Makers, but I don't like them as they don't allow for First Person Shooter games, platform games, etc...
About Dark Basic... I tried it and it went waaaaay over my head.
Game Maker allows for pretty much anything, so they're probably about the same, actually.

I've got a couple of game ideas, but I've never done much game-type programming and doing graphic stuff in C++ seems pretty daunting to me. So this thread really caught my eye. I've just downloaded Game Maker (unregistered version) and played around with it a little this morning. Looks cool! I'm going to see if I can make some of my ideas reality, and I'd be interested in seeing some of your projects. Something for the Gamecast, perhaps?

Here you go. ^_^
http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=18686 The game isn't even close to being finished yet, but it is playable.
(And keep an eye on the site periodically, because I'm starting to get closer to releasing WIP 3.1.0 -- but I'll bump the thread when I do that anyway.
)

It's for PC.
It's a very good program; I suggest using the forums to get some of your questions answered...
Cool, TMM! I'll have to check it out later. Right now, I'm too stressed because my cat is sick. Please pray for him...

Hm? Maybe I misread something or was unclear in my writing. I was thinking that this thread could perhaps be brought up on CAA's "The Gamecast".

I just read your thread in the Prayer Room. I also have two cats who are very dear to me. God has given pets to us for enjoyment and companionship - may He grant you continued time with Smokey. (And I hope your dog is OK too!)

I've had this program for awhile, but haven't done much with it lately. I did finish one game ("Resident Bad" Xp ), but I can't find it anymore...
I tried DarkBasic, but I need to figure out some coding before trying that one again.

I used to use a program called RPG maker, and that was a lot of fun while it lasted, but the guy who made the program stopped supporting it, sadly enough. I think his name was Don Miguel or something like that. I'm sure there's other programs out there like it, though. This one was really fun to use and had a lot of freedom. You could even program your own active time battle system with it (although I wasn't nearly that good).
