How many of you want to actually visit Japan?

I was just wondering if anyone here wants to actually visit the birthplace of all their favorite anime titles. I know I do. The first stop on my list would definitely be the Studio Ghibli museum?

Definately. I've always thought of hitting Tokyo the first thing, spending most of my time in and around the city. It'd also be kind of neat to take the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) network around Japan as sort of like a "bus tour" of the country.

Make sure you condition yourself for really cramped places, it's not for claustrophobic people. Also learn some basic Japanese and learn up on the culture, do's and do'nots etc.
I've been to the Studio Ghibli Museum! It's awesome! And only 1000 yen (about $12.50 Australian). My favourite part was the Concept Art and Paintings Rooms. Fascinating stuff. I could explore it for hours.

I'll go against the majority and say "no". I'd rather go to Korea

I mean. If I had the opportunity. It'd take it. Who wouldn't? But otherwise, It's not something I would invest in the near future.

I would love to! Unfortunately I don't know a lick of Japanese and know very little of their culture. I was hoping to go as an exchange student, so I could live with a family and hopefully learn some of these things.

Ditto. It'd be nice to go in a it's-just-another-country sense.

Gosh, we're such Koreans. XD

Sure, seems like a nice place to check out. Not really to live there, though (unless Nintendo wanted me for some reason o.O ).

Yes, under the right circumstances. Those would include some sort of translator/guide, and the ability to see the countryside as well as the city...maybe stay in at a mountain ryokan or something.

Yeah sure. Hopefully I could get the military to pay for it if I got assigned to South Korea.

Unlike most anime fans I really wouldn't mind it if I never set foot on Japan.

sure it would be cool to see the country, but it would be cool to see other countries as well.

I really want to visit Austrailia, or Europe too.

Oh, it would be a dream come TRUE if I were to visit Japan for a month or longer!

I would love to visit the country side, take part in a tea ceremony or two, participate in a festival, and visit a bunch of anime studios including (Of course) Studio Gainax!

I would also pay director Hideki Anno a visit and find out what the heck was he thinking when he came up with Neon Genesis Evangelion. :bang:

I'm in much the same the same boat as JadeFox, sure I would love to visit Japan as a fan of Anime but having grown up as a Missionary Kid in Asia I would like to return to the field after I gradute from Univesity. Add that to the fact that I'm on the track to do a degree in Computer Science and that the entire OMF Asia (thats the mission we are affiliated with) is running on about a third of the neccessary computer technicians, the will likely take me anywhere in Asia within the next 10 years.

To be honest, Japan is somewhere that I have thought of as somewhere to server but if God puts me somewhere else then so be it. Although I would still love to visit at least once. Especially to go through Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

I would like to visit Japan because:

1. I want to use their cool vending machines.
2. Want to buy toys that aren't sold in other countries.
3. Have a couple of friends there I want to visit.

Me?:

- New Zealand
- Belgium

and then I might think about going to Japan again.

KhakiBlueSocks, you can't just go around to anime studios and visit. The artists etc do their work on the anime at the studios. Studio Ghibli is a rarity and more of a museum set up partly like a studio, than a real studio. The studio Ghibli do all their work is elsewhere (north Tokyo I've been told).

Oh, sure, impossible language, land of the vendable porn? Good games and anime, but I'll pass, thanks.

Ha, good going Zilch. I never saw any porn vending machines (thank you God!). Only lots and lots of drink and food machines. I agree the language is nigh on impossible (especially for Americans to pronounce) but there's lots of good stuff there!

Sam, what a coincidence! Have you watched My Neighbor Totoro yet?

As a new anime aficionado, I said to myself, 'Self! I will never be obsessed with Japan, the language, or going to Japan! Only the anime!'

And then, not one fine day, but gradually over time I started to realize from my love of anime, 'Japan is awesome! I want to learn the language!' and then 'Japan is awesome! I want to go there someday!'

Alas....I have now joined the masses!
