Goodby To The Old Woodrow Wilson Bridge

Tonight at midnight the bridge that spanned the Potomac River interconneting Maryland and Virginia as part of Interstate 95 since the early 60s will be coming down with the push of a button.
The bridge had been a nightmare to travelers and commuters with accidents and times when the drawbridge section of the bridge would rise at the most unnesessarily times.
The person who has won the the right to push the button has been a commuter for years and his daughter felt he had the right to win the contest.
The gentleman had been on his way to work one morning from Maryland and ran into the back of a tractor trailer. After he was cut of the wreckage he was place in the ambulance and has the ambulance started to head for Virginia, the drawbridge went up trapping the ambulance on the bridge for 30 minutes.
I had work on many a accident on the bridge and it could be something to get to and off the bridge and the when you walked on it it shook like everything.
The new bridge which has taken its place is higher and wider and will in 2 years have its partner section sitting where the old bridge now is vacating.
So we will soon have 6 lanes of north and south traffic crossing the Potomac River.
