To make compition for the vampire lover thread I'm making this! Who else on CAA thinks Lycans rock?!
And for the commoners who don't use old terms; a Lycan is a Werewolf.

The problem is that we get "cool" vampires like Dracula and Lestat, but most werewolves in pop-culture become raving beasts without any personalities. The most notable exception to this would be Lucian in the first Underworld movie; though it is considered by some to be a bad movie, the character of Lucian is interesting enough that I enjoyed it.

And that's the problem with movie corporations. They focus on vampires only. I know of only four movies that are JUST about lycans and they are oldy movies. There are books out there that would make great movies, such as
Bitten and
Stolen by Kelley Armstrong. I heard they're making
Bitten a movie but the thread I read about that was in 2003 so I don't know about that *grumbles about Warner Brothers not making the movie* If HollyWood would get off their bums and stop dreaming about the undead and read a book on Lycans, there would be great movies out there and Lycans would get the recognition they deserve. *sigh* but untill then all there are is books. If you do like Lycans and other Otherworld creatures; read the books by Kelley Armstrong. Really good novels. If you don't want to spend money on a book you think you might not like you can read some of her work on her website.

Lycans in Hollywood have always disappointed me. They turn into hideous beasts or wolf-men, but never actually wolves.
That said, people who turn into true-blue wolves are cool.
YES, I am in both the werewolf and the vampire camp! *dance*

Werewolves rock hard. There needs to be more about them everywhere.

In Fool Moon (book two of the Dreden Files), you meet all sorts of Werewolves. There's werewolves, lycanthropes, hexen-wolven, and a Loup-Garou. It swings.

I've always thought that Lycans were WAY cooler than Vampires.
*flees the retaliatory vamp-fans*
Edit: And in response to the whole comment regarding a lack of cool Werewolves: What about OZ?! He rocked ^^

Haha. That was the firstthing that came to my mind when I saw this thread. "Oz is AWSOME!". lol.
I agree, lycans are fun. I really wish there were more movies with them in them.

From Buffy, Oz was Willows boyfriend for a time.

Umm, just to show that I harbor no prejudice against werewolves
, what about Remus Lupin (a/k/a Professor John Lupin) from the Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince? He is cool and he's got that disheveled romantic thing going on, too.

Remus was cool but Warner Brothers butchered his lycan form in the movie.
. . . . crap. If they do make Bitten into a movie, Elena and Clay had better not look like that.

I completely agree. =/ That was not a wolf. That was Gollum.

I am completely ashamed to admit that I forgot Remus Lupin. He's one of my favorite HP characters, even if the movie wolf looked all freaky, and not in a good way.

If you're into (or would be willing to get into) RPGs, look up
Werewolf: the Forsaken, in which your PC gets access to 5 different forms:
Hishu: human
Dalu: Near-human (ex:
Wolf with Jack Nicholson)
Gauru: Wolf-man (ex:
The Howling,
Underworld Evolution)
Urshul: Near-wolf (unable to come up with a good movie parallel; this one was actually my favorite)
Urhan: wolf

I've ran into this before but I was confused beyond reason. Care to explain what exactly it is? You can send Pm's to not clutter the forums ((though this thread did anyway . . ))

I'll just explain it here. W:tF is a table-top RPG similar to D&D. If you don't know that either, basically you and your friends play as a werewolf pack while the GameMaster tells a story. When it's your turn you say what your character does, rolling dice if necessary to determine the outcome of the action.

I enjoy the whole werewolf thing. As to which is cooler.... *shrugs* But I do love the thought of someone who can shift like that. It's a pity they get such a bad rap (occult, etc).
