Dominion Day!

Happy Dominion Day (Click the link!). For those who don't know, this marks the date of Canada's independence from Great Britain: July 1st, 1867. The music by the way is "The Maple Leaf Forever", and is the best version I could find (the closest to what they used to run on that "For King and Empire" series that ran on History Television).

The Maple Leaf Forever

In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

CHORUS
The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom's home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yeild them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be
The Maple Leaf Forever

[CHORUS]

Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever

Something to Sing About

I have walked many a mile on the shores of Prince Edward Isle
Laxed on the ridge of the Miramichi
Seen the waves tear and roar on the stone coast of Labrador
Watched them roll back to the Great Northern Sea

Chorus:
From the Vancouver Island to the Alberta Highland
'Cross the Prairies, the lakes to Ontario's towers
From the sound of Mount Royal's chimes, up to the Maritimes
Something to sing about, this land of ours!

I have welcomed the dawn from the fields of Saskatchewan
Followed the sun to the Vancouver shore
Watched it climb shiny new up the snow peaks of Caribou
Up to the clouds where the wild Rockies soar

I have heard the wild wind sing the places that I have been
Bay Bull and Red Deer and Strait of Bells Isle
Names like Grand Mere and Silverthorne
Trails of the pioneer, named with a smile

I have wandered my way to the wild wood of Hudson Bay
Treated my toes to Quebec's morning dew
Where the sweet summer breeze kissed the leaves of the maple trees
Sharing this song that I'm sharing with you

Yes there's something to sing about, tune up a string about
Call out in chorus or quietly hum
Of a land that is still young, with a ballad that's still unsung
Telling the promise of great things to come

Congrats to Canada.

Sorry about the whole 'we rule you thing'. Up until about 100 years ago us Brits' monachy had a real authority complex...

I know this song! I learned and sung it all the time when I was in elementary school; those were the days. ^______^ (I even still remember the tune. )

Also -- good to see someone else knows what today is really called. :) To call it "Canada Day" would be the same as calling July 4th "United States Day."

No apologies needed! For a long time after independence, most Canadians still firmly thought of themselves as being part of the British Empire anyways.

I had my chance to play Zeddy in the parade today for Zellers... but I got lazy and didn't know who to ask and stuff^^ Well, there's always the fall parade...

Alot of people at Zellers sure showed their spirit and bought a ton of Canadian merchandise and everything. Too bad we don't go all-out with the fireworks and all v_v Last year it was like "Oh it's Canada Day today?"

Our mountains, are very pointy,
Our prairies, are not,
The rest is, kinda bumpy,
But man do we have alot!

(We got a whole lotta land-)

So stand and up and be proud,
And sing it very loud,
We stand out from the crowd,
'cause Canada's reaaally BIIIIIIIG!

Happy Birthday Canada, and I forgive ya for hogging my own birthday because there's fireworks ^^

*is going to go listen to a load of Canadian music*

Dominion Day:
1)Day to celebrate by watching marathon of Gundam Seed in celebration of the
Earth Alliance's Dominion commanded by Lt.Natarle Badriguel
2)Day Trekkers mourn the fall of DS9 to the Cardassian/Dominion Alliance
3)Day some weird people up north of the U.S. celebrate hockey and curling.

Yeah.
I wonder why none of the Canucks here have made a comment on the curling and
hockey comment though.

In downtown, it was more like France and Portugal Day. On the streets, at least.
