Then when you think of the size of the Milky Way and compare that to the number of galaxies that surround us and then to the number of possible galaxies in the entire universe,we're really just a small bit of dirt on the beach of life.

Your display reminded me about some remarks made by the late Dr. Carl Sagan regarding a photo taken by Voyager I from the edge of our solar system:

To this pale blue dot in the cosmos, God bestowed life to beings that He created in His likeness. Then, in His unending mercy and love, He incarnated Himself amongst His creations upon that same pale blue dot as the Christ, the Son of God. Truly, the significance of this world far outweighs its mere physical size. Such is the glory of God in making great what He chooses.

And with the intricacy of everything on this planet, which is so minute, as the diagram showed, there are still those who think it to be a mistake. That baffles me.

I should probably insert some really deep comment here about the seemingly insignificance of human life in the vastness of space yet still God in heaven cares for us... but its been done.

It does however, force us to reconsider our place in the cosmos. Occupying as we do, such a small part in space and time, we are but a small part in creation. Medievel notions of the universe as a sort of small stage play, centred on us, and for our sole benefit. Recognizing that this isn't so is humbling, (to once again quote Sagan) makes us seem very small, even as it makes God very big indeed.

There's a line in Thornton Wilder's play Our Town where one of the characters is addressing a letter and she starts with the local town and then goes on and on until she ends up with either the Milky Way or the Universe.
